Eurogamer review up...

As someone who has actually been paid to write reviews, I don't necessarily agree with Dan's review score but I understand his analysis. At best, ED is about 6 or 7 out of 10. There's way too many glaring flaws to give it anything higher than that. Not limited to but bad communications interface, useless ships above the ASP, multiple bugs in the reputation/trading/event systems, lackluster conflict zones, broken missions, no sense of direction, and probably the worst of the lot, no motivating system to encourage either player interaction with the universe or others. ED is like a bed with no sheets, just a nice looking mattress and headboard. Definitely see it improving and becoming a wonderful game but this isn't an actual space sim, it's not an arcade flyer either, and certainly isn't spreadsheets in space. It sits in an uncomfortable middle ground where after the inital "Oooh" and "Ahhh" wear off just feels a bit like a chore.

Gonna be a cold month or two.

In before that unnecessary comment about grammar. I am blessed with a significant other lives to edit.

Leave him alone, THAT was my "wowkiddie detection test" Works all the times, now you know how much his opinion is really worth eh eh

My rating for wow would be considerably lower than my rating for tor, Im constantly amazed people continue to play that stale game. Your test needs work. Also I would counter that anyone that would even lower themselves to using the term wowkiddie has an opinion that is as worthless as those that still play that game.

Sounds like sour grapes to me from the legions of people who were certain that the game was going to be crucified on launch and yet the worst I have seen it get was a 7, and the best a 9.........

Yes the review is critical of a few points and rightfully so, but bottom line that does not mean the game cant be an 8. I am maybe 30 or 40 hrs into Gamma and its not getting old for me, even with its "limited" content.

for many people starting the game now, by the time they exhaust the current content there should be plenty more in there. the core of the game is sold. That is the most important thing to get right. Just because you do not agree with the reviewer does not mean he is wrong.

I'll wait for the IGN, Gamespot and GameTrailer reviews before I believe these 8/10 scores. Seems bias to me.

Anyone honest would admit the game was released too early, wasnt ready and still has a lot of bugs.
That doesnt say it's not a great game, it's just not 8/10 on release, no way!

I'd be surprised if all three didn't give ED at least 7/10 (or an average of between them) to be fair; while they are mainstream gaming websites, they at least understand that not all games are 'designed/made for everyone' :)

Why don't you boost? Or are you talking about supercruise? If it's taking you more that 6-8 minutes to go 100KLs, then maybe you want to watch some advanced travelling tutorials, I personally use the 'spiralling' approach detailed here (hell I even though I invented it eh eh like, oh well)
http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/2q3h6z/how_to_supercruise_faster_and_save_time/

its the whole process, I think there could be a chance to shave off some of the time it takes to/on approach. you cant boost in frameshift and superboost is not always available based on the context of being in the same system or not enough fuel for the jump... imo I just think theres room for improvement there... not a game breaker for me. but all those extra minutes eventually add up... its something the devs should think about.
obviously we need time to roll or grab a beer whilst travelling but you know what I mean... cheers

ps. I take it back... something I havnt seen anyone else doing is taking an arched approach or even circling on approach. if you carry on straight slowing down as you go, your looking at a good 5-8 minutes of waiting.
#
when entering using the arching method I can approach at virtually full speed avoiding the overrun by circling until I, less then 1000km away... it works surprisingly well... everyone should try it...
(helps if you've got head tracking so you can follow the planet visually when circling... )

Its so difficult I agree there is more to come which will make the game so much better.... But on the other hand I have put more hrs into it already that I did battlefield 3 or 4 and I have the urge to ply it way more than I ever wanted to play bf4.

And yet I would give bf4 a solid 8.5.

This is where scores are a nonsence and the flavour of a review is so much more important. I can't argue an even close to objective score because this is not only my goty it is the best game I have played since gears of war 2 (which I put 30DAYS into) but for me personally it would be impossible for me to score it as low as 7 given how much I enjoy it warts and all.
