European Animal Pack

So maybye the other wasn´t my last idea😅.
This one could be a very interesant one to imagine.

Well as a European and mouuntain hiking lover this would more or less look like my unpopular pack I wish to have!
5 of these species would perfectly fit in the building of the local wildlife parks in my family hometown.

As an unpopular opinion, I would willingly switch the wisent, and the Iberian lynx or the red fox (even if I really want the last two) for more diversity.
I would love to see include a bird : stork, herons, spoonbill, grus grus, capercaillie, bustard to replace the wisent.
Finally, I would replace one of the carnivorans by a piniped (walrus or harbor seal), a mustelid (wolverine or pine marten) a crested porpucine or even a greek turtoise.

But, overall even if impossible to happen, I would love to see the roster you presented in the game. Some might be included in a woodland pack and mountain pack. I can imagine red fox or red deer coming to the game. Very unlikely for the other (sorry for my favorites alpine marmot and chamois).

I would buy it immediately! I would change the exhibit for the Hermann tortoise or the European pond turtle.

Wild boar is close to my most wanted at this point so I would be very happy with that :D Also, I do want red deer and a marmot so that is also great to see. The wisent is also super iconic to Europe, that is a good pick! The rest, I'm not too interested in honestly... I know red foxes are popular but I really don't have interest in a third fox, and the Pyrenean chamois is a bit weird - I would prefer the more popular Alpine species but that is just me. The Spanish/Iberian lynx would be disappointing in my opinion... We already got a lynx in a Europe pack and I know the Iberian lynx is endangered but it would basically just be a reskin. I'm a big fan of the sand lizard for an exhibit animal! My local zoo, Chester, has them in a really nice sand dune exhibit.

For your pack I would keep:
  • Wisent
  • Red Deer
  • Wild Boar
  • Alpine Marmot
  • Sand Lizard
And I would replace the other three with:
  • Stoat
  • Walrus
  • Alpine Chamois

I think the only one i would replace out of these is the iberian lynx (as much as i like it). If you want a small carnivore a stoat, a marten or a genet could work for this. The rest i would keep just for the sake of finally satisfying the general community wishes of getting the red deer, red fox, wisent and wild boar even though none of those are in my personal wishlist or at least they are not a priority.

I do feel that this is missing a bird like the cappercaillie, so i would probably replace the chamois with that animal.

TBH Europe is very low priority ATM - Oceania and South America are obviously higher but so is North America (since it has higher diversity but similar in-game representation). Not saying I wouldn’t like some more European animals (especially birds) but a whole additional pack devoted to Europe? I don’t think that’s needed or desirable at this stage.

I agree. I don't mind more European species if they show up occasionally in packs with broader themes.
But the thing with European species is (speaking from a realistic point of view), most of them really only makes sense to use for making zoos within Europe. And even in Europe, you can find a good amount of zoos that only house a few or none European species. Therefore I think it is fair if Europe ends up being the continent with the least representation (not including Antarctica).

From Europe the most important species are in my opinion:
1. Red Deer
2. Red Fox
3. Wild Boar
--> Together with the species we already have a nice Wildpark could be made

4. Alpine Marmot
5. Marten species
6. Wolverine

Birds:
Capercaillie
Vulture
Grey Heron
Dalamatian Pelican
Mute Swan
Duck
Quail

Others:
Hare
Chamois
Wisent
Eurasian Brown Bear

Edit: But I see it like others. Oceania and especially South America miss a lot more important Zoo animals in my opinion.

Other areas need more attention, sure, but I still can't build a zoo filled with my local European wildlife...
I think it's absolutely fair to want for a lot more European animals.

What's perfect about the boar is to make a statement about the effects of invasive species; as y'all know, wild boar have taken over the US (especially the south, where I am) and also are in Australia

Whats perfect about the boar is to make use of the by far widest spread suid, naturally spreading across europe, asia and africa, only being stopped by oceans and deserts.
Its a large magnificent creature, ingrained in european culture and very common in our smaller zoos.
While they can be ferocious and agressevive, they are also very smart and easy going, not rarly being able to be pet and fed by visitors.
Another perk of their inteligence is that they have made their home in our urban areas, coexisting with humans much better then all other non domestic large creatures.
So we got a non tropical suid, our third european ungulate that also naturally spreads to two other continents, that can be used as a semi pettingzoo animal and that lives in every non desert biome.
Its also quite unique looking as a big and black animal with a spiky coat of hair.

And thats why i dont like the idear of an invasive animal pack.
We got all these cool animals and that reduces them to "look at that animal, living where it doesnt belong and causing large sums of enviromental and economic damage". Thats just not fair to anybody, especally when the only one at fault are allways the humans

Yes they are quite intelligent. I heard that there were helicopter hunts, where guys would hunt them from the air. The pigs learned the sound of the choppers and learned to run to the trees where they can't get caught

A very nice European pack, some animals are a must-have, I'd like to see the mediterranean monk seal since it's the most endangered seal species and its nice to raise awareness :).
Greetings.

I believe you meant Mediterranean Monk Seal. They're quite fascinating creatures, especially since Mediterranean sea doesn't strike as the one to house seals. We hunted ours to extinction on Adriatic coast long time ago 😢

Sadly precisely because of their status I don't believe they're kept in captivity.
