EVE is in crisis. Time to finish them and grab their players!

ED just does not offer anything near the depth or complexity of EVE. Kinda like asking a professional chess player to switch to checkers.

I stuck my toes in Eve. I didn't get a visceral thrill from the combat but the amount of player agency and the economy / contract system blew me away. There are concepts and mechanics I feel ED could learn and benefit from.

Not played either game for some time, but have played both for many hours, in fact played Eve for many years, lived in WH space for a few of them.

Its a bit like trying to compare chalk to chease, I played ED to fly a ship, be a space trucker and explore the galaxy we live in. Played Eve to control huge battle ships, strip mine asteroid belts with 30 of my buds, engage in huge space battles (pve), to poke my nose where it diddnt belong and hope to get away with it.

Also been playing a lot of NMS and thats offered other things.

ED is ED Eve is Eve they are both set in space bar that..

ok, I'll bite..

No I don't. Or at least not like EVE does them. "Player driven economy" EVE-style is just a codeword for "eat noobs, get fat" which would destroy this game. If EVE genuinely is "in trouble" the last thing we want is to bring the same trouble here.

EVE is "in trouble" not because of it's economy or crafting.
"Trouble" means aggressively adding P2W stuff.

ED doing a player driven market would require such a dramatic rewrite of the entire game that it wouldn't even be ED anymore.
Player driven ecomony have no sense without crafting.
But in nutshell you dont need to rewrite anything for PDE. Just leave markets for the players.

Currently only thing i can do in ED: buy cheap, sell dear, get rich.
No impact on anything except your wallet.
Too dumb for such a game. Dont you think?

We all know FD are not averse to a little bait and switch (cough offline mode cough).

They were clear during the Kickstarter that they didn't want to do EVE.
But then they were also clear that they didn't want to do Call of Duty in space either.

Odyssey alpha comes out at the end of the month btw.
Offline lol, it's the whinge that time forgot 🧟‍♂️.

And the two aren't joined at the hip? Believe me, they are. As a former EVE player I watched the rapidly increasing "barrier to entry" for new players. Nothing, nothing drove up those barriers faster or more thoroughly than the player-driven economy. It happens in other games and for other reasons too but almost without exeption those that have a player-driven economy experience it worse than those that don't. And it gets to the stage that to pull in and retain new players some "equaliser" has to be introduced. In the end, there's no equaliser left but P2W mechanics.

I am certain that any game with a purely player-driven economy will eventually become P2W. That it's happening to EVE now isn't an argument for Elite to start down that road.

I played EVE for many years then stopped about 10 years ago. I loved it, some of the best gaming moments I've had were in that, did it all, industrialist, pirate, miner, corp member and corp leader, amazing game that I havent seen done as good since.
It has a reputation as a toxic community and it does have that aspect if you go looking for it, but on the vast majority I found EVE community an amazing thing.

Hah I agree with You on that. My absolutely best MP gaming moments and friendships were in EVE, nothing came close to that unfortunately. Every other mmo game was beyond worse as far as "toxic " ED included.
btw OP I thought PA bought CCPs game like 2 y ago? Any new developments since coz I stopped paying attention to EVE since they started F2P thing..
