Excited about Elite? Maybe not...

...It's a very nice clunk don't get me wrong. Of all the clunks out there it's my favorite of the clunks. it's just that... I've freed slaves, smuggled vast amounts of goods, hauled mountains of refined ore, traded huge quantities of medical supplies to those in need.
It'd be real nice to of seen all these things I've done...
10/10 post, would rep again.

THIS is exactly it. People put hours into this game because there are so few of them available right now. This game and Evochron Mercenary are really the only space sim games of their genre available right now with a sandbox type environment. I log in to fly my ship around because, well, I like to fly spaceships around. The sights and sounds in this game are it's strength but we all know what happens to games that try to get by only on these strengths but lack gameplay. When I want to feel immersed I log into Evochron. It's 4 years old and in my opinion has way more soul than this game and a far better flight model. When the new version launches there will be no reason to return to Elite. My point being, many people will move on when variety to the genre is available. In my opinion this game is getting by right now on glitz not substance and that's a shame because there was so much substance planned. All I see is more window dressing being added and as they say no furniture in the house. Please, please, please start adding the furniture FD. Please make the next update all about the furniture, the fleshing out of the professions, life in the galaxy and a true feeling of immersion. Please change the fact that I can post on your forums WHILE I'm playing your game because, I'm doing NOTHING in the game most of the time. Time is ticking, and when Star Citizen launches the open world beta, I will be done because you have given me no reason to stay. People can say I'm just a vocal minority, but truth is if I didn't care about the game I wouldn't be vocal. I would just move on like I have on other games. I don't post in any of them! I post in this one because I waited so long for something like this to come along and I'm frustrated that it's not what I thought it would be. Tick, tick, tick, 1.2, 1.3, I will give you until 1.4 and then I give up.
Yeah, I'm enjoying Elite as much as I can without getting burnt out, even if that's only an hour or two every few days now, but if something better comes along I'll probably give up the ghost and move elsewhere for my internet spaceships.

So they needed to be persuaded?
I think you really did them a disservice.
Some people, like you perhaps, can't cope with the Elite way of doing things.
Others, not at all like you perhaps, will love Elite Dangerous.

Elite has really grown on me. I wouldn't want to miss it for the world.

I warn people, you have to be the person who likes the boring grinding games

I've stopped describing Elite Dangerous to my friends and simply started telling them that it is the Star Wars Prequels of video games.

I feel like I got my money's worth but I do hope some more depth gets added to the game before stiff competition starts popping up from the space RPG genre.

It's precicely this "yet" thing that is hurting Elite... It has been up for review by several popular review sites including IGN (ugh) and now it's getting player reviews on steam there will be a massive pool of "not recommended" -type reviews before Elite is ready to even be reviewed. ... and be honest, how often do you think people go back and change their reviews on steam

Well, it's not the reviewer's fault that they don't think ED is ready...

I dunno, I just checked steam and its rated 'very positive', checked out the reviews and the first one was titled 'not recommended' and he has 500 hours playtime on record.

I just dont get it.

Doesn't Steam give you your money back if you don't like it now?

There's no reason not to try it. If it's not for you, then at least you are basing your opinion on actual fact.

The Steam refund is for a maximum of 2 hours gameplay. There's no way that anyone couldn't like the game in that time if they like the space genre. It's problems start when you've invested far more time into it and kept hitting the bottom of that inch after travelling for miles.

I do remember the time after launch, when the forum was full of fanboy stating "use your imagination", "content will come later" and "be patient".
Now we are 6 month later and the game is nearly as boring as in the beginning (for me at least and obviously I am not alone with this judgement).
It seems, that ED is not listening at all to suggestions of gamers, who really want to love this game and have interesst in this genre.
And now we are waiting for 1.4 and the big things to come???

I've persuaded three people not to buy this game (yet).

I got two people to buy this game some time before the launch of wings. They've since lost faith in my ability to judge and rate a game. Im still sorry i got fooled by the "wow" factor that wears out as fast as it arrived. I have to live with this descision for the rest of my life... I sometimes cry even.

You're slacking! There is a guy on the steam forums who claims he has convinced all 300 of his friends to never buy the game! :D

How he's gonna check on that? What was his particular issues?

Will sound as excuse, but for big game like this it takes time to lay down complex systems on which everything else will relay on later on.

If you *want* to love the game and you have certain requirements before that happening, you don't love the game and never will period :)

Game is good, but not recommended if you are looking for 1000h obsession fest? :)

There there. Here's some rep to ease your pain. Despite its many flaws I would still recommend Elite: Dangerous. The middle ground to recommending this game to any XBOners is that there's a one hour try before you buy. It's a shame such a thing isn't available for the PC version.

I guess there's one way to check whether someone is a good candidate for a Commander's seat. Recommend the one hour trial to them, and tell them they should really use some of that hour to check out Hutton Orbital.

This is not a game for children who have no imagination and want to be led around by the nose,If you are a child with no imagination who likes to be led around by the nose you may not like this game. But as with all things peoples interest in the game will decay,Anybody can critisize something,I have always advocated the idea if you dont have any better suggestions you are just flapping you Gob for no reason

Really, your friends are so judgemental? I think its time to get new friends. As for the comment about crying... over a decision to purchase a game. I really hope your post was a joke, because that was hilarious.

I didn't take it too seriously. It was one of those posters who seems compelled to post in every thread about how bad the game is (regardless of topic) and how nobody should be playing it because they don't like it.

I've persuaded three people not to buy this game (yet).

I'm a beta backer and a member of a 62 people gaming community. I was some kind of "scout" for the rest (we do this with almost all games before moving into) and I convinced almost all of them, except three, to not buy the game at launch date, and wait a bit more; They played for 30 to 40 hours and never returned, they felt deceived by the marketing and the reviews. We are talking about players with enough commitement (when the game is worth it) to reach the endgme of Eve Online, with a learning curve that makes ED seems like Hello Kitty online, so the difficulty wasn't the problem, the actual game was.

Since then those three are even more vocal than me, but without the "lets wait a bit" option. And it's a shame because we are looking for an alternative to the Eve Online's stagnation since 2013. We don't even play Eve online anymore, we just skillup our characters and log on to keep the moon mining active and the accounts payed. But this game is not an alternative and judging by the last patches it won't be in the close future.

The word-of-mouth is very important for this kind of game because dedicated players, the ones investing a lot of hours and creating content, not only for them but for the rest directly or not, will come on groups and very well informed. And right now if you go a bit deeper of the day 1 reviews (outdated) and the "I was a fan of the original hence I love this game because is the best in the world" reviews, which are obviously biased, you will soon find all kinds of very accurate and well stated complaints, from backers and non-backers, from people who discovered the franchise 30 years ago and newcomers; getting bitter with every patch and very active in the media.

Just look at the comments here, it's not even a ED related article:

Edit: I forgot to mention. Last thing they did ED related? Picking a Steam key to make a review, you can imagine the rest.

Just to point out, the top user review on steam is negative even though they have played it for 450 hours. I would say they got their money's worth out of a game they supposedly don't like. Go check it out, it's baffling.

Top user review is negative because people feeling strongly about ED being bad struggles to get their message out, so they try to find ways, and upvoting negative reviews is one way to do it.

Top user review is negative because it has more "I found this usefull" votes, period. Everything else is just opinion.

Which makes you wonder about such people's lives, if they get so upset about a game. Remids me of the kids at school who would take their ball home if people didn't want to play the way they wanted.

Which all together is pretty sad. Maybe you should find a different community to be part of? I wouldn't want to associate myself with such people.
