Exe file has lost its icon

Any idea why my EDLaunch exe file has lost its icon - the actual exe file not the desktop shortcut? (That doesn’t display the icon either, even though it can be selected in the properties tab.)

I suppose it is due to some icon cache issue but I have tried deleting the main windoze Iconcache.db file but that didn't help. Is there a specific icon cache / database file for elite?

Program still launches OK it is just annoying.

sounds like a bad reg if windows icon cache is clear an ok🤷‍♂️
try a reg cleaner maybe........
if instaled via steam that maybe the cause as it has its own icon storage cache methinks
last resort uninstall all then reinstall the launcher package then the game as it can only be file corruption i would have thought
ensure enough free space on your os drive for windows to function correctly i would also ensure your storage drive is not going into low usb power saving mode or switching off

You could try running %temp% which will list all temp files on your main drive. Select all and delete. Then right click on the ED launcher exe, change icon, and select the launcher as the new icon which should fix the issue.

You can't select anything to change the icon in the exe file's properties, only in the shortcut properties.

OK so after deleting the icon database file and even running windows clean-up nothing helped. It must have something to do with the fact I renamed it. (BTW - there was no problem with it before today, icon displayed correctly.) So I made a new copy of the launcher, ran it, logged in and validated, no issues.

So I deleted the copy with the missing icon and when I looked in the recycle bin, lo-and-behold there was the icon - restored the file to the EDLaunch directory - ahha! no icon. So I copied that (non-icon) file and pasted into the directory - shows the icon, remove the "copy" part of that filename - no icon - change the filename to something else - there's the icon.

So it is obviously something to do with the temp or db files for that directory. Anywaup - I cannae be bothered to find out more, I have a working renamed launcher and that will do me.

(Serves me right for buying an alt account for the bubble - maybe I should have ignored my aversion to Valve and bought it from Steam.)

The one that has failed the Icon test was named EDLaunch - commandername.exe the renamed one that passed the test used the initials of the commander name. (It is not my original commander - which uses the default EDLaunch.exe file name - with no icon issues.)
