'Exotic' screen resolutions in ED?

o7 cmdrs,
I'm thinking about wasting my hard earned cash on a new monitor with WQHD+ resolution (i.e. 3840 x 1600).
Has anyone of you tried that on Elite?
Does the game even support it? And if yes, what's the verdict performance-wise?

Cheers,
Rubbelspritz

People do play with wide aspect ratio monitors (and double-/triple- etc.- setups), no problem performance-wise (AFAIK performance just as you'd expect by the pixel count).

the game will support it as long as your pc can cope with it

performance will be down your GPU.. and whether or not your running odyssey or horizons

my machine copes ok at 60fps in most places at 1080p however if i run on 3440x1440 it takes a nose dive of around 20fps and thats with horizons

No issues running ED on super-ultra-wide or ultra-wide monitors. I run at 3840x1080 with no issues.

ED is one of the better games for ultrawide, in that it works flawlessly.

I have a 21:9 monitor and for me ED mostly handles it well- I can really have a roomy FOV. The only annoyances are on things like the shader loading screen and a few menu areas where the background is not 21:9 friendly and tiles across the screen- not earth shattering but is earth shattering because I can never unsee it.

Virtually all games cutscenes/splash/loading screens are letterbox on ultrawide - just one of those things. At least it's just the launch anim and the shader splash. Once you're actually in the game, it's fine.

I'm still amazed how many games don't support ultrawide natively given it's 2022, and there should be a decent proportion of the market now using ultra-wide, or you would have thought so anyway.

I play at 3840x1600 with a 3080ti. It looks great, especailly planet surfaces where there are fantastic vistas.
Unfortunately widesceen piccies are not allowed in the weekly screenshot show.

The only down side as far as I'm concerned is the galmap. Where the two menu columns are not at the edge of the screen.
And although the map extends beyond the menus, you can't select anything with the mouse from there.
Odyssey is slightly better than Horizons because the menus are narrower.

The scaling problems with widecreen in the galmap has been solved, but the menu placement hasn't.

Same here, 3 monitors 1 for ED 3440x1440 others for INARA and 3rd party software, pretty good FPS for a laptop lowest at 40-50fps on ground CZ
Annoying is that MAPS and OUTFITTING are fixed at 16:9.
Some while ago FD wrote they would need to dive deep in the code to adapt them for other aspect ratios... so it will propably not happen

I'm running 5280 x 1050 across three monitors on my poor old rx580 (same principal and TheMindBuddah, but the ghetto version of that set up) - it does make the fans spin, but that's what headphones are for, right? Another benefit is that I can turn the radiator down :)

Exotic? I'm guessing my 1280 x 720 resolution on my LG monitor doesn't count as exotic. It's what works best with my aging hardware though :( On a plus side, since the last update the AMD CAS now works with this low res so it doesn't look too bad, ie. the text is actually readable!

I have an Alienware 38"

For the most part it's fine, but there is one annoying glitch not yet mentioned.

The outfitting screen is cut off at the bottom so you can't read the range numbers.

And the Galaxy map issue is not much different than it was when I used a 34" monitor.

I use a 3090, but It's likely a bit of overkill and you'll probably get the same performance from a 3080(Ti).

I set my monitor and ED to run @120Hz/FPS and it runs very well generally not dropping below 90 FPS with the occasional dip to 60FPS at settlements.
