[Expedition] The Black Hole Hunt, Departing July 5

tl;dr
Am taking my FC to this area rich in undiscovered black holes, about 18k LY from Sol. A 2-3 week trip. Commanders are welcome to join and use FC services for free.

Itinerary
Departure: Sunday, July 5th. 2000 hrs.
Arrival at destination July 8th (or 9th).
Return: Sunday July 18th. 2000 hrs (travel back may take 3-4 days)

Background:
I found this place about 18K LY from Sol, towards Colonia, 3-4 years ago, and revisited it 3 months back to check if it still exists. There are like thousands of undiscovered black holes here, spread over a large area. I tagged about 500, and then decided to come back with an FC. The area is relatively accessible, just off the beaten path, and needs to be documented (before others do it).

Travel Plans
The FC will be parked in the departure system (tba) 24 hours before departure, allowing expedition members to transfer their ships and get on board in good time.

Departure is on a Sunday evening from near Sol, and the aim is to get the travel done asap. Much of the FC travel will take place at unearthly hours (thanks to my COVID-19 work schedule) e.g. 0400 to 1100 hrs.

Sightseeing on the way is not an objective, though I would like to stop midway for a few hours at Flyiedgiae QN-T d3-17 (Quantum World). In case there are accompanying commanders, I am totally flexible and open to stopping at any way-point of interest.

Again, there are no plans for sightseeing on the way back, unless expedition members have suggestions. The idea would be to get back to the bubble asap.

Exploration
The area that needs to be explored is possibly 1K LY across (Edit: black hole field is approx. 5k ly x 2.5k ly). 2nd Edit: 5x4 k ly. I'll park the FC somewhere in the middle initially, and it may be re-positioned if/as needed. As explorers generally work independently, there are no expectations, and no obligation to explore in fleets, sell data, etc.

Some collaboration, though, would be great to ensure that we do not try and tag the same black holes. I cannot guarantee anything, but I believe that there are enough black holes for a carrier full of commanders and more.

Expedition members are welcome to explore areas en-route (while I sleep or go back to RL). I will clearly post FC jump schedules on Discord, to facilitate this.

FC Setup
The FC is named: HELP ON THE WAY H0K-00Z

Currently I do not have Shipyard and Outfitting installed, to save space for fuel (overflowing with Tritium atm). In case there are accompanying commanders and in case they would like to bring more than one ship, I'll install these facilities (money is not a concern). This will reduce our travel range, though we may still be able to make it there and back without need to mine Tritium. Still, it may be a good idea to bring along a mining ship.

Other facilities are available without tariff: Repair, Refuel, Restock, Advance Maintenance, Universal Cartographics.

Edit: All services available, including Shipyard and Outfitting.

Communication
All crucial communication will be via Discord https://discord.gg/YWXVYCp
This forum thread may be used for expressing interest, discussion, and expedition updates.
All FC travel will be clearly posted on Discord, though the 2 crucial times (departures) have been posted above.
Commanders on the expedition should join the private in-game group Samroski (my CMDR name).
I will not abandon expedition members or leave them behind. Will check Discord and in-game group chat before every FC jump (in case you decide to step outside between jumps and get in trouble)

Registration
You may express your interest in this thread (or on Discord https://discord.gg/YWXVYCp), with your CMDR name, and the ship/ships you would like to bring along.

There is a limit of 16 docked ships (read: Commanders) on an FC (8 large, 4 medium, 4 small). I do not expect enough interest in this initiative for this limit to be an issue.
Note: you may transfer (any no. of) ships to the FC and switch ships when needed.

As no one is joining the expedition from the bubble, I may move the carrier in the next few hours before departure. Changes in carrier location will be posted on Discord.

I may also depart early, at my convenience, without notice.

The expedition has reached the start of the black hole zone and started to explore.

Plan to stay here indefinitely (at least a month) as the expedition members do not need to return to the bubble.

CMDRs wishing to join are welcome. Updated info on Discord.

The time of increased interest in black holes has passed along with the change in prices for terraformable worlds :)

Black holes give you zilch money- wise, unfortunately, which is strange as they are probably rarer than most stars.

I've always been fascinated by them, and fortunately do not need money. And there are endless black holes to claim in this area, so I'm happy. It may take a few months to tag them all, possibly years. Which also makes me happy :)

As an update: Yesterday was our first day exploring, and we discovered 85 black holes and triple- tagged many of them, which was fun and very efficient.

The numbers are only limited by the play time. All updated information is on Discord. Our current location is 5k ly from Colonia, and 18k ly from Sol.

Galaxy region name "Oephairb"?) I was hunting for rarities 5K light-years from the Colony three months ago.

Update: The extent of the black hole field is likely around 5k ly x 2.5k ly. Vertical height around 500 ly. There are 100s of thousands of black holes here. Additionally the entire field has exceptionally high and uniform distribution of B (and A) stars, which has possibly resulted in the high black hole density throughout the field.

My hypothesis is that other such fields may exist in different parts of the galaxy (the expedition will find them eventually). The (real) milky way possibly has 10M to 1B black holes, and maybe half a million are in this field. Should other such fields exist, I suggest naming them Michell Fields, after John Michell, English amateur astronomer who first postulated a star massive enough to entrap light.

The expedition has as yet explored 446 first-discovered black holes near one periphery of the field, and is now moving towards the centre, to identify interesting areas to explore within the field. By the weekend there will be 2 FCs stationed in the field to aid the expedition, providing all services, tariff-free.

CMDRs are welcome to join and help explore this massive area. Once here, you should be able to transfer your ships and modules to the FCs.

For updated information, check Discord.

Posting image with revised estimate of black hole field extent. Only the SW (near Colonia) and SE (towards Sol) boundaries have been identified. Rest need confirmation.

Two FCs, with all services, are now stationed in the field for expedition use, tariff-free.

Count: 518 first-discovered black holes (there are like a million here, as the field is much larger than anticipated).
