Exploitation dangerous

This is better than anything even the craftiest Zigerion could come up with 🤣

I can see it now. I pretend to be a noob, smuggle a viper onboard the slave-o-matic along with my t6 and go for a ride into the black. For awhile i blend in with my fellow nincompoops and shoot rocks. Then i bust out the viper and gank the whole crew laughing maniacally as i mercy them back to the bubble. All the while the slavemaster groans in rage as his workforce gets obliterated.

don't think so. that trick may get a few. but i dont think its a problem for the masses....

like the flat earth movement. the counter-attention is bigger than the original movement.

I am stealing the title from the Hull Seals reddit (no link, just google it).

I chose to make this an independent public service announcement, so here goes:

It has come to my attention, that pilotes fresh out of the Academy have been tricked into what can best be described as indentured servitude by a "get rich quick" scam involving Fleet Carriers and short range mining ships.

The scam goes as follows:

The new pilot is approached by a "helpful" veteran player with access to large funds and a fleet carrier.

The new pilot is given the means (possibly through favourable trade) to obtain and equip a small or medium mining ship. Crucial here is that they are asked to downgrade the FSD and not informed about fuel scopes, as "transport will be provided".

The new pilot is then asked to land on a fleet carrier that will take them to their destination.

Once the pilot has disembarked, they are now stranded in a system far away from the Bubble with no means of getting back on their own. The pilot makes a few mining rounds and actually makes what seem to be a good amount of money (in reality they are paid rock bottom prices), but with no way to return the idea is that they will work for the scammers indefinitely. Exactly how the scammers are keeping the new pilots working for them I do not know, but whenever they lose one there are probably two more available.

Being fresh pilots, they may not yet have picked up on a few important points of Elite:
  • the extremely generous life insurance policy that lets you "respawn" in a loaned Sidewinder with all your credits intact even after using the self destruct.
  • the importance of always having an exit plan, to always bring a fuel scope and never risk getting stranded in a system you can't get out of (be it by fleet carrier or neutron boost)

The rule about exit plans isoften broken deliberately by more experienced commanders, and they mostly get away with it. And if not, they know how to get out of a sticky situation (self destruct or fuel rats).

However, this is also an opportunity for an equally crafty fresh commander:

- the first option is to scam the scammer, allow them to give you a ship worth a million credits, then sell it and buy something more appropriate. A player that is there to actually help you would not ask for anything in return. If a commander owns a carrier, a few million credits is pocket change.

- the second option, if you fell for the scam, and is now stranded, is to look for the self destruct option in the right hand panel. Or just ram a nearby asteroid at full speed. When you get to the rebuy screen, there will be an option to respawn in a loaned Sidewinder close to your starting system. Then get on with your life and make som real friends. You probably made a little bit of money to upgrade from the sidewinder, and you now know how to mine. It is a every efficient way to make money if you are not scammed.

- there is actually a third option that lets you keep at least one cargo of mining materials, as well as the mining ship. There are commander groups sending fleet carriers to the systems where this is taking place, offering free transport (for real this time) back to civilization.

Stay safe and remember that there are more good people than bad in this universe.
Honestly, I can't get mad at this, it's just too funny! Plus, that could happen in real life if we lived in the game universe, along with ganking and other so if you need realism, you can't be mad at this either.

You know, now that I think about it, if gold selling ever takes off in this game this could be a nice source of supplemental income with my FC. Forget real world sweat shops, make one in game!

Flat-Earthers playing the largest space simulation available, now that would be hilariously ironic! "Hey bro, I was just looking for proof is all..."

To be honest, conspiracy theorists of all stripe usually annoy the crap out me. The "moon landings were faked", "9/11 was an inside job", "Star Citizen will release someday", "Pyramids were built by aliens", etc are all both obnoxious and demonstrably wrong. But of all of the ridiculous, half-baked conspiracy theories out there, none get under my skin more than people who legitimately believe the Earth is flat! Beyond being easily disproven without even leaving the Earth's atmosphere, it shows such a fundamental lack of understanding of inescapable laws of the universe than it makes my head explode.

So the Earth was built by flat pyramid-shaped aliens?
gosh-darn! :ROFLMAO:

You sound like a commie, what what

Why don't you join the winning team and bat for us old bean?

After several G&T's, I can confirm the following theories are actually facts:

1. The Earth is flat (I planted a runner bean yesterday and it did not fall over).
2. Chem trails are real (I did loads of prohibited substances the other day and my vision was really messed up).
3. Conspiracy theories are only theories until they are proven right (Watergate, etc.)
4. An open mind is a useful tool, a closed mind is a box within you sit.

Toodly pipsky old bean, what what

My main account is actually doing this at the moment with my alt as he can't afford a fleet carrier yet. I wanted my alt to do some mining out in the black while my main continues with massacre missions. Hopefully I haven't unwittingly brought stow-aways on the carrier. As you can't see who is on the carrier, who knows?

I think the lesson is don’t hitch a ride on someone else’s carrier unless you know the owner personally or you’re prepared for any eventuality (i.e own a fuel scoop).

Every time I see a post that reads ā€œI parked on a random carrier and had a 2 week break, now I’m stuck 5000ly away from the bubble...ā€ I can’t help but laugh and think
ā€œWhat did you think was going to happen?ā€ šŸ˜‚

I pity the fool that decides to park on my FC as my mood often changes with the wind and I might jump 10 times in one day from Witch Head to Bubble to Guardian sites or I might sit in the same system for a week while I’m doing whatever I’m interested in at the time.

I’ve never taken my FC much further than the Thargoid infested nebulas outside the Bubble but according to my stats it’s done 30,000+ly so far.
I wonder how many stowaways I might have stranded in that time? šŸ¤”
