Exploration - charting unknown bodies and multiplayer

Is there some multiplayer aspect to "exploring strange new worlds" ;) - scanning / exploring new celestial bodies and selling them to universal cartographics? Will they then be no longer hidden for other players? Will they be from now on charted for everybody else with the time i sell their exploration data? Or does every explorer in ED play single player content and he charts new objects only for himself? Can someone shed some light on it for me? How does it work in details when it comes to multiplayer aspect of it?

The best you can do, once your team has Advanced Discovery Scanners, it to pick a sector and divvy up who goes to which systems. Everyone then takes care of their corner and reports back to the group with the best systems. Everyone can then streamline their income potential by only travelling to the highest-value systems found by their friends.

Err that's not what he was asking ;), he wanted to know if everyone's galaxy map gets updated when a player maps an unexplored system.

I think it's the 2nd scenario, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah, from what me and a mate have seen it works like that. If we both go to an unknown system we can both, individually, scan the unknown object. We can then both sell it at the same station later. Which is a little odd.

Oh, heh. Yeah, everyone scans their own, unless you want to buy the data from UC.

Ahh thats a shame, I always hoped that if I discovered something it would update for everyone :( Exploration just took a blow for me, I enjoyed knowing/thinking I was the only person to have been to somewhere and because of me other players now get some nice info on the system in the galaxy map :(

Yes this is a shame it would be nice if players were credited with the discovery of systems. I suppose I understand why it is set up like this because casual players would never get the chance to sell exploration data as stations would always have the data. However it would still be cool if the servers kept track of the player whom first discovered the systems.

It's been said that our names will be attached to systems that we discover. I'm honestly surprised that it's not already being displayed somehow.

Each person who sells the data gets a little less until eventually enough people have scanned an object, at which point it is supposed to become 'known'.

At least, that was the stated plan. We'll have to see how it shakes out now that it's live!

The first sale will get the most money, subsequent sales reduce in value until eventually they are worthless.

When someone scans a system and another player goes to the system they BOTH have been the first to scan the system.

THE QUESTION IS..WHO SELLS THE DATA FIRST? you get it now?

Once the data is sold, the information is relayed to everyone and everyone sees the updated data and any further attempt to gather information about the system is devaluated.

You can literally trail someone elses exploration pattern and sell your data before they do and get more money then them because you sold the data before them.

But are you sure? Have someone actually tested it, or everyone here is wild guessing? It would be awesome if it would have meaning to venture where no men has gone before. But i dont like ti live in fantasy :) I want to know it brings me real benefits and satisfaction. There is nothing thrilling to explore unknown if whole galaxy is just waiting for me and me alone...

Would be interesting if one of the developers could comment on this. My gut feeling is that it is individual to you and not the community but first one there gets more. Im doing the rare commodity / exploring runs at the moment and although im covering a very large area i would assume that most of it has been scanned before. However the sheer vastness of it all would suggest that once i get out of the core areas i would be almost certain to be the first one there. But to do that you would need a fully kitted out asp, head off into deep space and be away for days.

Some systems seem to have more information like when you get there you find it has mining platforms but no trading data is showing them. So whether this means you are first there or not i dont know. Someone said that 450ly out you will find no npcs and no platforms so perhaps that is the limit of explored space and anything over and above that is progressive like the increase in value of rare commodities? Only speculating here...

Can we have some developer's insight on this topic? Its rather important and can make or break the game for an exploration fan.

Regardless of how it currently works I'd like to see a galaxy map filter for explored/unexplored systems. Surely UC would at least tell people what systems they still need information on. It would be interesting to see where people have been too.
