Could anyone be so kind and explain to me how the discovery codex entries generating works? Im just out on an explo trip and im very confused as to what dictates when an entry is made and when not. Specifically scenario is that I find lets say silicate fume thingy; when i scan it with composite scanner sometimes i get entry into codex and sometimes not (I have no idea what drives that) - more over in the codex theres only one confirmed entry for that geological type (really, only one? per whole sector? theres gonna be hundreds of them, qhy one?) - so I have no idea why do I get new codex entries for stuff thats alreadybeen put into codex - and only sometimes.

Im sure its something trivial but I just cant get to the bottom of it.

Rumors are generated by the developers, there's a rumor that something is out there you just gotta find it. Reported are discoveries by other commanders, who by discovering something, have automatically "reported" this thing is out there in the codex to everyone. Confirmed entries mean you have gone to a location and confirmed something that was "reported" by another commander was there. Hope that makes sense.

Codex entries are based on which of the 42 galactic sectors you are in. You get one entry per sector (I believe, still new at it myself).

thats what I thought too, but it seems im getting entries for same stuff in same sector. ill keep a closer look

I understand that, it just seems im getting codex entry messages for stuff I already confirmed myself. but I might be reading it wrong.

still one confirmation per whole sector (there are hundreds of geo signals all over the place) seems quite underwhelming to say the least

You get a whopping additional 2,500 credits for scanning stuff in a new instance after originally confirming it

The confusing part is the notification marker in Codex that makes you think you found something new

I've confirmed 149/173 in Inner Orion Spur and that's my experience so far, hope it helps

yeah I noticed the 2.5 cred notifications too, they seemed unrelated to the new codex discovery message. but what you say makes sense

I used the composite scanner on a fumerole, got the confirmed tick in the Codex, and had a 50,000CR bonus for "Codex Research" (or something like that) at the contact that pays off bounties. That's my first and only confirmation so far, is the 50K credits only for 1st confirmations or ?
