Exploration cross-platform

Note: Explorers should upgrade to the 1.5 million credit advanced discovery scanner as soon as possible - you can make a few million quickly by doing local missions like we did in our Two Guys in Space series.

Not just Explorers - I carry one at nearly all times, regardless of ship, when travelling for any reason - it provides "free" credits and Exploration Data is useful to be able to sell to gain reputation with the Faction in charge of the dock.

Agreed. When you have enough credit fit one to all your ships

I am a ED NOOB, are you saying that a 620ly journey in said ship takes 15 actual, real time minutes, to accomplish?

High Wake Jump is approx 30 seconds, assume each star you refuel for 30 seconds (this may take longer), 20Ly max range, and 30 seconds to manoeuvre away from star and line up to next jump.

620ly is 31 jumps x 1min 30 per jump gives you 46 mins to get there.

At my age, I'm no longer interstead in fame or fortune; Thst's for you young'ens to fight over. For me discovering something new will be like it was on Christmas mourning, opening presents. Open, note and then off to open the next. The problem isn't that something hasn't been discovered yet, it's, the galaxy is HUGH, which way to go first. Just like Christmas mourning, there's so many presents to choose from.

Yeah you can use a neutron star for huge jumps but it is possible to get a DBX up to a really good jump range

true but i have seen single jumps of over 200ly on youtube, using neutron highway. if i am right you jump between the bubble and the formidine rift in a couple of hours real time using it depending on ship and jump range

Wow Billl, you're on first name terms with the Galaxy? ;)

Yes it is; BUT, should one learn how to utilize the nuetron highway, means you'll spend less on improvements to your ship, thus more to spend for wine, women and song when you arrive. I remember a time or an era, prior to the "Interstate Highway System". Very few utilized it in the begining. Today at rush hour, they are like a parking lot in motion. I concur that in the near future, there will be so many using the nuetron highway, FDev will make done easy revenue by mandating fees, thus becoming a toal road. LOL

bill i swear if FDev use your idea and the feds, imps or alliance start charging for neutron star use, i will personally use my 4 inch stiletto heel to boot you out of the nearest airlock. Cappesh

Michael said a while ago that there are still systems in the bubble that are undiscovered - I wonder if that is still the case.... :)
Systems? Highly unlikely. Celestial objects? Yes there are.

and OP, quoting: https://www.edsm.net/:
0.003319% of the galaxy has been discovered on EDSM, it will take 59,566 years, 1 month, 2 days to discover it entirely.

Nothing to worry about. I've recently tagged two planets near sothis (a popular place a while ago on the fringe of the bubble). You will have plenty.

But I think a clarification is in order too... there is no cross-platform gameplay. You cannot instance with other platforms, which is sad :(.

What does a player do during a 15 real time minute or longer voyage from here to there? I played NMS, and the longest I was ever in a black hole (fastest way to go somewhere) was 2.5 minutes. In which case I went 3.5 thousand light years. Jesus, at my present age, I may not make it out of the confines of the bubble. LOL

It's not a single jump - 620 LY could be 10 to 60 jumps, dependent on ship range - and may well require the ship to refuel en-route (by scooping or docking). Jump cycle time (jump, hyper-jump animation, arrival, hyper-drive cool-down, realignment & scooping, activating discovery scanner, hyper-drive charging) takes of the order of 45 seconds to a bit over a minute (possibly longer in Open due to matchmaking overhead).

You still have to be in control of your ship to avoid nose planting stars when jumping in and lining up for the next jump etc.

Billl, word of advice, don't ever do the trip to Hutton Orbital ;)

You can push a Type 6 well past that max range (upwards of 30Ly in a single jump) & add fuel tanks so you don't have to refuel for longer, The Cobra MkII can do upwards of 28Ly in a single jump - both of these are without engineering anything - though you will need to upgrade assets as you need them. Both those are available within an hour of gameplay given a few lucky missions (I wholeheartedly recommend the Cobra mk III however - it can do everything pretty well & run away when it all goes wrong).

The real star is the Hauler, 37+ lightyear jump range when kitted out for taxi duties (unengineered) - you don't need an explorer to do light near bubble exploring, just a hauler, fuel scoop & an advanced disco scanner. Ok, so it wouldn't be much cop at "Real" exploration as you would have to compromise on one or more items required for serious exploring, but as a practice vessel with an ADS & fuel scoop and an extra fuel tank or SRV (you can do without this if you don't plan on landing much - but it makes a nice change of pace for the game).

i will avoid that place at all cost, used to really hate that place in elite 2 and FFE. if i didn't over shoot it with the time compression nonsense, then i would end up on the oppisite side of the sun and it would take me twice as long to get there. so thanks but no thanks, think i would rather travel to Andromeda in supercruise [knocked out]
