Exploration is Great

As thread title. It's taken me most of an evening sorting out key bindings and how things work, but in a 750ly trip out of the bubble I found exploration awesome. This is what I want in a space game!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to taking an exploration trip.

Wait till you get over around 1200Ly out, you'll be spamming your name everywhere :) Suggestion go up or down in the GalMap rather than in a straight line... That is fun!

Spent, 9-10 hours with it yesterday, and I'm bursting at the seems to get back to it (once the server let's me in!). Never before have I been actually excited to explore. :) I am getting the vibe that now that we actually have lots of fun and viable alternative activities instead of just 1 or 2, the game is suddenly feeling very fleshed out. Combined with the lighting changes, I am starting to feel like it's a real Galaxy.

This new exploration gameplay is an unqualified success. Great job Frontier!

P.S.: Now let me actually play....fix the servers. :)

Yeah, exploration is a real thing now. After having travelled 1,5 mill Ly already, I cannot stop exploring more.
I did 97 jumps since the patch. 193 HMC found. 27 mill cr estimated. 1329 scans in total.

And it somehow makes me being patient. No rushing to get somewhere. Scanning is everywhere.

I think the game has given us plenty of possibilities to set our controls and the new FSS HUD is very intuitive. I like it.

I tip my hat to FD. I was able to spend about 5 hours online today and headed back out into the black. As someone who has spent the majority of the past four years exploring, I have to say this exploration update is fantastic. I was certainly skeptical when I first heard about it but after some time in Beta and some time today, I think I'm going to love exploration again. My only suggestion is for the FSS to not be a separate screen, but I can live with it. I would also like the animation to disappear after I have fully mapped a body. No need for it to stay animated. Now I only wish the servers would stop kicking us out.

I have only discovered connection errors so far. Yee gods, this is bad.

Not a happy camper.

You're getting the exact same gameplay. You move your mouse and point at the "OK" button (pretend it's an ICY moon), then point at "START" (perhaps a gas giant) and rinse repeat hundreds of times.

So what did you discover new in those 750ly trip, beside putting your name on planets?
Anything we didn't saw before?

I have found literally zero surface-things myself in four years. I found half a dozen things the first day. So that is an improvement of... *grabs calculator* infinitely much.

I'm loving it. Even more than on the beta server, cause here your discoveries matters.

I've been scanning every single system on my route(never did that before), each one as exciting as the last. I'm searching for rare phenomena, and undiscovered geological activity.
Already got one first in my current galactic region. Yay :D

IamMe: I have discovered a bunch of terraformables I would have never scanned before the patch. I also found two Watergiants and 2 Ammonia Worlds, 7 Gas Giants with Ammonia based life and 7 with Water based life.
I found one Lagrange Cloud with strange lifeforms that look like Tank barriers of WW2.

And I've found lots of fun

... hope that answers your question ...

I won't go so far as to claim it is "great". But it is better. That's not saying very much though as exploration was so lame before that almost any change would have been welcomed.

Too bad fdev caved (yet again) to the whiners and preserved the old jump-honk-jump style of exploration and melded it into an unholy marriage with the new style.

They're not showing on the codex though. Or maybe they do, I can't really tell as I am yet to be able to login.

It is random, in without issues for a few hours earlier, break for dinner, connection issues - just keep on trying..

Codex has not yet a 'first discovered' for server issues, but it is in the rumoured bit :D
