Exploration progress (rank) does not match with Codex Statistics

my codex statistics says I sold exploration data worth 697.000.000 cr. - see screenshot 1

According to the rank up table* I should already have been given the rank Elite I .... but, during update 11 the counter got stuck at 40something percent - which happened during my trip to Colonia and back to the bubble. My rank progress bar didn't show any movement when I sold exploration data. It was 'stuck'.
Then, after update 13 the progress bar began to move again when I sold exploration data. Still the counter says with almost 700 million worth of data being sold my rank is still Elite with 51% done towards Elite 1. - see screenshot 2

That can't be.

I sent two tickets and got no response. Then I turned again towards frontier customer support - this time with my 3rd cmdr account in this game and responded to an old issue via e-mail. Got a response there, but not very satisfying. Frontier says my rank is fine as it is - but does my counter move now is the question they are interested in. Which wasn't the question. I assume they must have mixed up my accounts ...

Is there any other way to report a ticket to frontier which will be answered within a considerable period? My two tickets (report a bug) still got no answer (weeks ago!).

* elite fandom states one Elite rank step-up per 320.000.000 cr. worth of sold exploration data.

That is incorrect and you did not get that from Fandom.

Here is Fandom's page on Exploration Ranks.

It states very clearly that Elite is 320,000,000. It then goes on to show that to go beyond Elite at all requires Odyssey. If you're not playing Odyssey you can not advance beyond regular Elite status.

However, if you are playing Odyssey, the ranks progress as follows:

640,000,000 Elite I
960,000,000 Elite II
1.28 billion Elite III
1.6 billion Elite IV
1.92 billion Elite V

uhm ... thanks for the info. Am 60 years old and my memory may have mixed the source(s) up. And thus the info? :)

But, maybe I don't understand the system?!
Do you say that I need 320 mio for Elite and another 640 mio to get to rank Elite I ?
Or are those numbers the totals of all sold data?

In that case the counter still does not work as intended, as the Codex info clearly states I've already gone beyond 640 mio ...

Correct.

Each time you hit the next rank, you start over at zero.

But you do have a point - the information in the Codex is not accurate to where you are in rank. I'm not sure why, so that is still an issue that should be sorted. For instance, I am very close to hitting Elite II. In fact, I'm 94% of the way there:

Now given that 94% of 960,000,000 is 902,400,000 why does my Codex say I'm only at 710,000,000?

It is a bug, definitely.

I would ignore the codex completely. The window panel shows you where you are. I also use INARA to know exactly where I am in ranks and the like. It's far more accurate than the Codex is in the game.

Interesting, there are 2 ways to comprehend that chart.

First way (Which is how you seem to be understanding it): to get to Mostly Aimless takes 40,000cr, then to get to Scout takes another 270,000cr - so a total of 31,000cr to get to Scout

Second way (Which is how I understood it, and how it feels to me that it works in practice): to get to Mostly Aimless takes 40,000cr, then to Scout takes another 230,000cr for a total of 270,000cr. This, to me, is what the column heading "Total Profit Required" means.

This would make the OP's statement that "elite fandom states one Elite rank step-up per 320.000.000 cr. worth of sold exploration data." correct.

Whilst the percentage does indeed start at 0 again I think that it goes up as a percentage of eg 270,000cr - 40,000cr for Scout rather than a percentage of the whole 270,000cr

They stopped counting elite ranks before Ody dropped. So it's all a load of bull anyway. I have 4b+ in explo data sold, still just Elite. 🤷‍♂️
It is true that any credits over those needed for Elite rank that are gained before Odyssey is purchased are not counted towards Elite 1-5, but any gained afterwards are.

Not when you play the game and pay attention, because each time you go up a level the bar resets to zero; and that goes for everything in the game.

That means you start over at zero.

If you didn't, it would have a very small percentage of completion already highlighted to get to the next rank. It doesn't. Because it doesn't work that way.

Each rank you start over and have to earn the total amount for that rank.

It works that way on every game I've ever played.

Re-read the last line of me post.

I did. It's wrong. It can't work that way. Basic math prevents it.

You can't have a percentage of zero on a rolling scale. There will always be a number there because you would be at 40,001 of 270,000. So the counter would have to read 14.8% of 100% at the very least.

The only way you can reset it to zero is if the number itself is zero.

Besides, all you have to do is actually play the game and pay attention and you'll find that 230,000 will NOT get you to the next level. It takes the full 270,000.

That is fact.

It could be that part of your earnings were prior to Odyssey? Cuz Elite I and II and etc are not retroactive. Anything you did prior to Odyssey is ignored.
It is odd though that his panel shows more than enough to make it to the next level where mine shows far less than I actually have at the time.

Either way, something isn't right.

Are you sure 'cos I am Elite5 in trade and I have done no trading (generally) in Odyssey.
Yep I'm sure. Otherwise I would've shot up as soon as Odyssey launched. I have 13.7 billion in trade profits, yet I'm only Elite II because of the money I made after Odyssey.

All those billions I made before don't count toward the new ranks.

So it must just be Exploration that does it - I have never reached Elite in combat so have no idea if that is the same.

I'm not sure what you mean. All of the Elite+ ranks started with Odyssey. It was not possible to make progress toward them before they existed, and past accomplishments don't count. You start at zero for all Elite+ ranks when you start playing Odyssey. They have to be earned in Odyssey (and maybe Horizons 4.0, I have not checked there).
