Exploration question

Since I am on a major trip into the black, I have one question for those who might already know: Is there a clear way to tell when you have an earth-like, water, or terraformable world? When you lock on to a target, you get a little image to the left of your main sensors, what do these world's look like?

Pics if you got em please!

If you call up the system map and hover over each planet, each type makes a distinct sound. It's clearer with headphones. A Water World has a faint, bubbling sound, and Earth-likes have a sort of faint Rain Forest sound.

What GreyAreaUK area said, after a few seconds you should hear a sort of bird whistle too - Note: Water worlds and pay out more than Earth-Like if they are terraformable (Running Bubbling Water sound)

Upfront on exploration target selection its a little tricky.
I learned that metal rich bodies, very close to the star look quite similar to Waterworlds.
Earth likes can have different shapes, but they have also that Waterworld hologram very often.

After scanning an object it can help a lot to have EDDiscoveries Voice Assistant online.
That way you don't need to take a look into system map. The Voice will tell you what it is
e.g: "Terraformable Water World" or "Earth like body".

I enjoyed this pretty much becuase accumulated it saved me some hours switching panels.

Miklos

Does anyone have the audio files or clips for them??

Imprinted on ones sub conscious...as a challenge sometimes, I like moving over the different bodies and trying to guess what it is by just the audio. Kudos to the guy who coded that in, thats one of those little things that I genuinely hope they never mess with ^

Recommend a good set of cans though...its one of those very subtle background sounds that ye need cans to really appreciate it ^

Hi,, i use ed discovery also,,, how do you enable the voice assisnt part of it to let you know the planet you just scanned,,, does it keep talking all the other stats also ? or can you just have it give the identity ? thank you in advance ?

Thank you Speccy. That graphic is very helpful. I have not paid that much attention to the differences in the holo-graphics.

I always listen to music so can't hear the subtle sounds but it's pretty easy to tell from System Map what Planets are Water Worlds or Earth likes just by visuals.
Earth likes stand out like a sore thumb looking much Bluer than all other types of Planet.
WWs even though they vary, still just have a look to them that makes them easy to spot IMO.

I use either one or a combination of 3 methods when exploring:

a) If the system has a lot of planets and several look interesting and I'm not 100% sure, I'll listen to the sounds as it's the quickest way.

b) If the system has only one planet that looks viable to scan, I'll look at the Hologram

c) If the system has few planets or if I'm just scanning Metal-Rich < 100 LS out (or both), I'll use the Target menu and select the first planet, then check the hologram, then go back and do the same for the next planet.

So it depends on what the system has and what method(s) I use...
