Release [Explorer's Application] Captain's Log

I found the Steam log location and it told me that it was incorrect.

Can you tell me the full path of your log directory then please?

Actually, if you can tell me that full path, plus a screenshot of the folder in front of that - I need to see what the contents of that folder are as well.

Regards.

F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010\Logs

In that folder are a lot of netLog.(string of numbers).log and debugOutput.(string of numbers).log

C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\CaptainsLog

In this fold is just: Captainslog.cfg

I hope this helps!

The way CL checks if it's the right directory, is by way of the following:

1) When you specify the Logs folder, it should then follow that the main ED directory is the folder immediately in front of that.

That means that if you really have specified F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010\Logs as the Logs folder, then in this case, that main program folder will be assumed by CL to be F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010 .

2) In that main folder, there should be a file called AppConfig.xml

If it cannot find AppConfig.xml, then it is assumed that you haven't specified the correct Logs folder.

My question to you is: is there a file called AppConfig.xml in
F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010 ?

If there isn't, then try and search for AppConfig.xml. When you find it, take a note of the folder that it's located in. Then see if there's a subfolder called Logs. If there is, then that is the Logs folder you should specify to CL.

Note that as of writing, there have been 228 downloads of the Beta 7 version of CL. I assume that you're not the only person to have downloaded it and who is also playing the Steam version of ED. :)

If finally got it working! I had to install it in the F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010
I was then able to point it at the Log folder and everything was fine!
Thank you for your help!

That's interesting... I did notice that your drive letter was F instead of the usual. I wonder if it's related to that. I don't think I've hard coded any reference to C, but I'll do a check of the code to make doubly sure.

Glad you got it working though ;)

Elite Not Running

When it is. Captain's Log does not see that ED is running and the Logparser is stopped.
I installed Captain's Log at the weekend (CaptainsLog_1_0_0_Beta_7_setup.exe) and cannot get it to run properly..
Any help will be appreciated.

BTW I am running it on one Win 7 machine.

Thanks in advance

Presumably you're running CL on the same machine that ED is running on?

Also, when you run ED, can you have a look at the Task Manager? There should be a process called EliteDangerous32.exe. If that's actually there and CL still isn't detecting that's in the Windows process list (which is how CL detects that ED is running), then perhaps it's a permissions problem and CL is being run as an ordinary user? I haven't looked into this whilst answering you now, but it might be the case that you'll have to run CL as Administrator in order for it to see the EliteDangerous32.exe process in the process list.

Wait! One. I'll check. ;)

"run CL as Administrator", That did it. :D
I am surprised as I had given myself full control of that directory, for another programme.

Thanks for the quick response.

I wish this program could automatically input the info when you search a system. By the looks of the above screen grab, I am not using the program to its full potential!
