Although the highest grade would be most welcome, I think I'll settle with lvl4 fsd boost as have lots of yttrium and arsenic... At least I can upgrade more ships.
I think that some of the reason for the amount of dissatisfaction with mat collection is down to the level of expectation held by some players post 2.1. Searching for mats, especially the v.rares, has always been a mind-numbing grind but some types of player (e.g. explorers) are likely to accept it more willingly as part of that 'journey' you mention.
Was Yttrium always a rare item? I thought it was very rare. Found tonnes of Yttrium.
Just noticed that the SRV is fueled when you dock. Not much help to explorers.

Found other mats in USS and at crash sites on planets and some while mining, most v common stuff but got some Germanium that way.
Yip...Found my first polonium today....been DWE'ing for nearly 6 months and looking good ol' P for most of that. If upgrades are 'easy' to attain, then they lose their special-ness. Not everybody 'can afford' these things and that's entirely the point.
I probably won't even be close to seeing an engineer for at least 6 months (@ BP right now) and really don't want to come back to find every second ship has one-shot-kill capability.

Frontier gave us surface materials in 2.1. I believe it is safe to say that a great deal of players except explorers have largely ignored the mats found on planets up until now, simply because they found no joy in driving around down there, or that the benefits of having a +15% boost in weapon efficiency for 10 minutes wasn't worth the 5 hours searching for different materials, and therefore they shrugged and moved on to what gave them a meaningful experience. Now people are more or less forced into activities they may never enjoy doing, and they have no real guide of how to do it, nor any guarantee in how long things will take - and I for one understand the frustration.
I say, yes... grind is part of the game - be it in credits, ships, ranks, going somewhere or working the background simulation. But at least you have the knowlegde of how to obtain your goals, and a sense of how long it will take. The Engineers is at best vague in this regard. I really hope frontier will listen to many of the excellent suggestions people make (such as when you scan the planet you will get an idea of what to find there, and where to find it).
Anyway... that remains my wish, for now.
My dream is a discovery scanner mod that automatically scans asteroid belts so they aren't sitting in my nav panel listed as unexplored.
Yesterday I found myself spending 3 hours looking for selenium,
I found tonnes of this yesterday - Deciat 8 A.
Thank you for the tip, although I have already found what I needed (if I hadn't during the 3 hours I spent looking, I would never be able to affiliate myself as a Rock-Rat)![]()
Prospecting reports in the ports? Like the other reports we get when landed (that nobody reads).
