[Exploring] Full pips to systems or engine?

Is there any reason not too? All of the time when I am exploring I have 4 pips ENG and 2 pips SYS. Unless you have a reason to turn power distribution off (say to balance power for other systems - but what these would be when exploring IDK) I say keep it on. You never know, one day FD may put something 'dangerous' out there for us to find.

I might be wrong, but for me, most exploring is done in supercruise, so there is no need to adjust settings as they don't do anything there.

Well I think it keeps your ship cooler but I'm not absolutely certain what the power percentages mean in the modules tab. Power Distributer is 4% for what it's worth.

That's 4% of your power plant's total output, every ship and module is different. Turning off anything using power lowers your heat signature, yes.

OP the power distributor is completely useless when you're exploring, so just turn it off. Even in normal space.

So say I have all pips in engines when I drop out, should I adjust them to systems to escape or vice versa?

None of that will do anything. All you need to escape is a working FSD. The power distributor does nothing but assign priority and recharge your capacitors. You can still boost, fire weapons and recharge shields with 0 pips to anything, so long as the capacitors still have some charge. Seriously, the best thing you can do with the power capacitor while exploring is to just turn it off, and save a little bit of heat. You'll want to run as cold as possible if you're some kind of spoon who crashes into stars.

Best fuel scooping method is to fly until you're sucking in around 80% of your fuel scoop's maximum, and then sit perfectly still until it's done.

Yes/\/\ The first thing I do when I'm 500ly + away from human space is power down all my weapons/defenses/cargo scoop etc. My power output can be as low as 50 % which helps greatly when getting too close to an object. But i have emergency heatsink launchers + only go as fast as you need to in SC and angle when fuel scooping.

Good info guys. What do you put your pips into before shutting down the PD?

Shutting down the PD removes the pips so I don't think it matters. All systems just get their standard output from the reactor and function at normal efficiency. The PD just lets you boost some systems in exchange for lightly handicapping others. Since you never need to rejigger your systems during an exploration cruise (when are you going to need a higher thruster speed or better weapon cooling 1000ly from sol?) it's nothing but a little box in your ship that takes power and outputs heat. I just imagine it like a flow control valve over a water pipe. Turning it off is the same as leaving it open, only it doesn't take power.

Basically if it wasn't a required module you'd sell it from any explorer ship.

Okay, I was going off this quote from the wiki comments section:
It's a good idea to have this turned off if you're not changing your power distribution frequently. It still keeps whatever distribution you had before you turn it off, and each bank still recharges at the same rate, just without the x% power drain which helps save on heat if you want to run as cooly as possible.

If that's not true then nevermind but what would charge the frame shift drive faster, having pips in systems or engines?

Frameshift charge time isn't related to the power distributor as far as I know. It's all mass-based.
