Newcomer / Intro Eyeing Up A Cutter

How do I do that? I assume it will improve the range of my Python?
It will improve the jump range of any ship it is installed in by an amount depending on the size of the module (up to 10.5 ly for the maximal size 5) minus a tiny amount due to the additional weight.

There are several good videos on YouTube that will show you how to unlock it. It is a small adventure in itself. Might be an interesting break in all the mining.

What are you talking about? I am perfecty fine ... except the occational nerd rage, nervous jitters, diarrhea, vomiting, dandruff, green skin, and general male pattern baldness. But other than that, I am perfectly fine ... :p
This is why I pirate other players, the break them free from the adverse health affects of grinding. I'm a hero!

I would be more impressed if somebody equipped a Hauler for core mining ...
Not seeing an the issue.

Well, the one thing you're going to have to face is - getting a Cutter is a month or two of hard work. Who knows if mining will even be "a thing", two months from now?

So if you want Cutter just for that, you may end up disappointed.
But on the other hand, Cutter is good for other things as well, so yeah. Personal opinion - go for it. It will be eating you up if you don't, anyhow.
A couple of days ago a guy showed how to get the rank for a Cutter in a day!

The Cutter is a very fine mining ship, and will get you money at a faster rate than a Python. It's a bit cumbersome, but that doesn't really affect you when mining. It can be a bit of a pain at the station if you mess up. I'm doing missions in an engineered Python at the moment. It's like a feather compared with the Cutter.

Who was this guy? Can you please post a link?
Also what is the spec of your mining cutter?
How can you "mess up at a station"?

Well you could jam it to mailslot quite tightly, though thats easier with Anaconda as it has bridge way on top of the ship. And also you can smash it against various obstacles as Cutter really does not want to turn on dime :D

I really would not recommend using get that fast shortcuts, they really take most of feel of achieving something away. (It took about year for me to get Cutter, or in play hours some 600 hours.)

When you let the count-down timer below 6 seconds, you can't easily turn around to face the station again because the turning is so slow. You can end up circling the station without ever getting to point at it. You have to fly away from it some distance to give enough room to turn. Also, it has massive drift in normal space, so you have to be more careful when lining up with the slot. You get used to this after some time, so it's not a deal-breaker.

Engineering makes a Cutter much nicer to fly. This is the one I've used to mine 170 billion worth of Painite and LTDs (1/4 million Tons). It's not fully optimised, but is more than good enough for the job.
