F10 screenshot resolution lower than game resolution

Hi there. Taking a game screenshot with F10 creates an image with lower resolution with respect to the one of the game. I have two Elite Dangerous accounts and copies, one with Steam and one with Epic.
This problem applies to the 'Epic' version of the game, only.

My screen is set to 2560x1600 and so is the game. The upscaling is "Normal" and "x1.0", so no surprise here. But if I take a screenshot with F10 the resulting is image is 1707x1067 only, so it's a x0.66 size with respect to the actual game resolution. If I take an Alt+F10 screenshot it's exactly 4x the 'wrong' resolution.

This doesn't happens to the "Steam" version of the game, where the other account is.

Any idea on your side?
Thanks a lot

Not much to contribute other than that the Epic version sometimes behaves weird. For me, when I launch my Epic alt, the game doesn't follow the per-application scaling rule of SteamVR, and I have never found out why, even though the physical installation is the same (my Steam and Epic installs share the products folder) and both pull the settings from the same place (AppData\Local\ yadda yadda and so on).

Upscaling? Do you play in VR?
Good point. The F10 screenshot has the resolution of you desktop window, not your VR view.

If you go into C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\Settings.xml

You can set the following for the high res Alt+F10 screenshot scaling

<HighResScreenCapAntiAlias>3</HighResScreenCapAntiAlias>
<HighResScreenCapScale>2</HighResScreenCapScale>

I think I reduced my scaling from 4x to 2x just because I thought 4x game resolution was a bit of an overkill in terms of being slower to generate and file size.

Hi everybody. Yes, I was aware of the setting for Alt+F10, I will play with that then because I don't think I understand the issue with the normal F10, taking screenshot with a resolution lower than the game resolution.
I guess I'll live with that and will do high resolution photo...

Thx

Using the Epic version here and also play at 2560x1600 and F10 gives me a 25x60x1600 resolution .bmp image. Not sure what could be going on with your setup.

Thx for your feedback, i'm really curious to understand what's going on. In the meantime i've understand that the issue is that my Epic-version game isn't really running at the resolution I'm setting it. It's the same exact issue reported here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/graphics-discrepancy-between-steam-and-epic.628604/

Any idea greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot

Note from that thread: "Edit: Well im an idiot sandwich lol. All the graphic settings were the same but for some reason one was different. The freshly installed steam version had borderless window as setting, even tho it should have been fullscreen like with the Frontier version, no clue why that settings was changed as the only one. After changing to fullscreen i got my 4k picture back and it looks as it should."

What exactly are your in-game display settings? Fullscreen/Windowed/Borderless ??

Related question: how do you bind the high-res screen-grab to something other than alt-F10?

I can't find it in options/controls, though all the camera operation controls are there

I'm currently using a steam deck instead of my VR HOTAS machine, so it doesn't have alt-F10 keys. (I might be able to use it's virtual keyboard though)

To answer to @Archvillain I don't think there's a way to remap it but I'm not familiar with the steam deck version...
To answer to myself and @Mako The Grey I've found the solution (strangely!) by setting the display to Fullscreen to set the resolution right. Then back to Borderless it kept the correct resolution. Really strange, since the 'Steam' ED version was Borderless all the time with the correct resolution.

Anyway: SOLVED.

Thanks a lot to everybody
