Fabulous heatmap timelapse showing ED exploration over time

This is just brilliant! It's wonderful to see how it has all unfolded, over the last year.
It's gratifying to see my own trail up there in the North West in mid 3302 :)

Fantastic resource with some stunning looking images. But is there an idiots guide on how to actually set it up.

Everything I have seen on it seems to be written in gobbledegook to me, so I have no idea how to go about using such a wonderful resource.

So, to recap - I am an idiot. Is there an easy way to see how to do what you have to do to use this.

Regards, John.

Set up what? The data in the video is sourced from EDSM. That's just a website you can sign up to with an email address.

If you want to contribute then you have to load your netlogs/journals into their database. You can do that directly through the website front end or you can install a tool like ED Discovery. That will, if you give it your EDSM details, do all the uploading for you and provide all kinds of cool local tools. There's a wiki you should be able to find from the releases page I linked (in the menu bar near the top), and if you install it there're links in the help menu to our discord channel and forum thread, any questions just ask.

There's also an EDSM discord channel here and a dedicated forum thread here.

Feel free to PM me here as well or add me in game (CMDR name in sig) and bug me there, I'm one of the developers on EDD and happy to lend a hand.

I just had a thought...I wonder if this version of Elite will follow the original version and allow us to explore other galaxies at some point? As I recall there were eight in the original BBC Micro version.

Great map. It stopped at about 3.1 million.

3.1/400,000 * 100 = 0.000775%

We've not even started, even if only 1% of explorers' data was logged we've not even started.

Yes, there were eight. You needed an expensive "galactic hyperdrive" to jump to the next one, and it could only be used once.

It's hinted at:

"Thargoids have demonstrated some kind of instantaneous long distance jump technology, which may allow them to move rapidly across the galaxy, across otherwise impassible rifts in space, or perhaps even between galaxies."

There are numerous cool 'graffitis' spread throughout the galaxy. Has someone collected/catalogued them in one place? If not, and if there is any interest, I might try to do that.

The difference made after what I assume is when they made transliteration unnecessary by including system cords in Netlogs is impressive. Until then I could just make out my own line of pixels on my way to Sag A*.....
