Faction pilot suit for faction rank reward

I find the ranking to be a bit bare bone atm...

So why not fill in the blanks with faction pilot suit

Starting off with the basic look then gets more elaborate once you have a higher rank.

The imperial could have futuristic suit design with blue light line running across them or a much more fancy style pilot suit like the ones below

See here's how it works.
If you're Alliance - you put an Alliance decal on it, and it's Alliance.
No ships - no ranks - That's how it is.
Paint it green, put a triangle on it - That's your Alliance suit / ship / system right there.

Green + Alliance Decals = Alliance Ship.

Did I miss something?

How is getting free flightsuits fleshing out ranking? It's just cosmetics. Would rather see better game mechanics around military careers than 'free stuff'.

iirc those are just mere honorary ranks or else we cant really rank up on another super power

+1 to this. Actually, I'll give it +10 just because. Ranking is tedious and could have something to fill in the gaps. Basic colors for faction ships, decals, anything to look forward to.

Why give out what they can sell for $4?

I'd rather they just stick a rank insignia on the front of your RemLock that is dynamic and updates along with your rank.
Something on the left side for Imperials, something on the right for the Federation, and.. oh yeah, there are no Alliance Ranks...

I love a new broom.

When I started in my job I made all this great stuff happen.
Six years in and I'm part of the problem.

But here's a thing.
Elite is a game without consequences.
You can be a Rear Admiral and a King at the same time.
So having cosmetics that are Faction locked is pointless.
Nothing looks more Empire than a gold suit at the helm of a Cutter.
And to my eye, the Consiliator suit in green at the helm of a Lakon or de Lacey says Alliance.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see this idea implemented.
But it's another example where you kinda need some mechanism to make a choice meaningful.

It should be possible to have BEEN a King and to now be Rear Admiral. But getting to Rear Admiral should involve giving up your titles and Empire citizenship. And vice versa - becoming a king should require an act of treachery against the Federal Navy and a stripping of your rank.

The naval career progression should be meaningful. Yeah you can keep the ships. But now you've stolen them from that Navy and you're a long time hostile to that faction.

The way it is now, you'd have to wonder about the state of Princess Aisling's boudoir. Every CMDR in the bubble has been with her for a month to get their hands on her prismatics.

I've never envisioned faction ranks in ED as actual military ranks, but more as an honorary position. We're more like privateers or mercenaries than we are actual military commanders.

This was always my take on it, especially after the proliferation of "Kings". We fly ships in a broad capacity across the galaxy and I'd imagine are somewhat in the middle between the people who own things like Gutamaya and the dockmonkeys who service our Clippers.
