Fact's New Theory of Hatching

BUST went active (alongside existing WAR):

Now trying to push faction back into FAMINE + WAR (which would be strange as faction got FAMINE cancelled by the onset of WAR). But then again I wasn't expecting to be able to get BUST + WAR <shrug>

The multi state system makes no sense to cancel the economic state because of a war. There does seem to be 1 day of none between economic states, are you sure it wasn't just a move from famine to bust?

No - it went FAMINE -> WAR / NONE / BUST PENDING > WAR + BUST - I updated the first post to have all the changes (it's at the end). I think that's probably partly why it's proved so hard to work out what's happening as Wars change state so much, and wars are happening so much that they're masking everything else.

As you say - the cancelling of the states makes no sense. I'm going to try and get the Security state away from NONE and see if that gets cancelled too.

Yep, saw the same occurring in Asterope as I went to the other end of the slider, Boom then Investment, about half dozen weeks ago. I thought it was common knowledge and I was just slow on the uptake.

Haven't checked could be fixed, but need to be careful of this issue...seems to be a slight difference between looking on the Squadron Allegiance screen and the Status panel when in system. Only the direction trend arrow but could be other indicators not in sync.

... Looks like the WAR state cancelled the FAMINE (like the good old days I think?), so now we're in state NONE, with a pending BUST. I wasn't expecting this with the new system - why does WAR not stack with FAMINE? And why is BUST pending, can that exist alongside WAR?
...

I think the sequence for the Economy slider, when improving from Famine, is: Famine > None/Bust Pending > Bust > None*
The states don't change directly from one to another but have a short None/Pending gap in the middle.

The fact that you also triggered a War at the same time is coincidental and just a result of the Influence changes that came with the positive economic actions. I think War would happily stack with Famine if you weren't simultaneously trying to increase the Economy slider.

[* and likewise in reverse: None > None/Bust Pending > Bust > None/Famine Pending > Famine. There isn't a None-Pending state].

Pretty sure you're wrong here - when the WAR traiggers I lost the FAMINE, went back to NONE. Then it starts reqaquiring the BUST (the dot is still in the FAMINE section, if you were correct I think it would have restarted acquiring the FAMINE). I'm sure if they hadn't broken the BGS it would have continued and once I had the BUST it would have gone on to reacquire the FAMINE, but it does seem that if you block a FAMINE with a WAR then the BGS will go back through NONE -> BUST -> FAMINE.

ofc this is all moot, as the currently broken BGS and the tendency for the BGS to return to the mean without external influences (influences which are blocked by the broken BGS) means that the dot in my system is now in BUST, and I really don't know if I can be bothered to do this again.

Sadly this means I don't really have the data to bug report this, so someone else can have the honour when they hit it in a few months time.

The multi state system makes no sense at all as you can be in investment, CL, outbreak and retreat at the same time...

Hmm, looks like the status can skip states (if you can move things fast enough). Now fdev have introduced Blight as a negative Eco effect we can see factions like this with a pending Famine:

I would have expected this to have Bust pending, but it seems that the indicator is far enough over to be in the Famine activation zone (though you cannot tell, as the hatching is still looking like Bust will be next).

As you can see - no Bust at all
