Fancy a new mining ship. Suggestions welcome.

I know the intention is to have a mining ship that can do it all but my experience with core roids lately is that i find so few of them, i basically stopped equipping core equipment except for when im targeting a mineral found only in them. 2 mining lasers is plenty on a dropship given its collector limits and I often use just one and fill the other hardpoints with guns. That class 6 distro with only 3 or 4 hardpoints means you can crank up the heat on what you do equip. I use a overcharged + oversized fixed beam with OC+ auto loader or corrosive multi cannons or cannons to keep the pirates in their place.

Ah well, so much for trying something new. 😕

That's the FDS and Crusader flogged and they've been replaced with a Krait.
A Python would have given me another 64t of cargo capacity (192t vs 128t) but I don't want a ship that requires a "session" of mining to fill it's cargo hold.
The 128t in the Krait is plenty, it has 8 Collectors and is fairly agile to fly so it's ideal for a quick blat in any likely looking ring system my FC ends up parked near to. (y)

Was kind of hoping to find a reason to fly a new ship but I guess there's no point swimming against the tide.

If not mentioned, the Beluga is an excellent miner. Very maneuverable with G5 dirties, excellent view with the half moon cockpit screen, two hardpoints on top for laser mining, or what I do is 3 lasers on the bottom in a cluster and an abrasion and ssm on top. You can change all of that around to your liking. About 256ton cargo and 7 collector limpets with a 4a refinery. I have no complaints.

An universal Challenger miner. 128t cargo, 4 collectors, 1 prospector

No shields tho, still decent hull and the ability to kill the random pirate.
Eventually one medium mining laser and the small multicannon could be swapped around for a better pirate punching power at the expense of lower asteroid lasering power.

On that note, when you upgrade the hull armor of a ship, does it improve the canopy?

I've always operated on the assumption that it doesn't, so I wouldn't fly a Challenger into rain without a shield.

When shields are gone the only protection for the canopy is offered by the MRP.
Hence my AX hull tank Challenger sports 3 MRP and an AFMU. MRP can be repaired anytime during fight (same goes for canopy)

Ah, right.

Least the tank-ships have a bunch of mil-slots to make use of.

Must admit, the specific benefits of HRPs and MRPs is something I've always overlooked.
I just tend to bung 'em both in my combat ships and I use HRPs to boost the integrity of lightweight ships instead of fitting heavier armor.
