Powerplay Fast-Track cargo: unprofitable?

If the math is correct, fast-tracking 10.000 merits costs 100 Millions. Quite uncomfortable and unprofitable as a way to gain merits.
How is one supposed to earn 10.000 merits a week and earn Cr. out of it?

I do a mix of free-loading the powerplay cargo and fast-tracking. Occasionally I'll add undermining or opposition into the mix. When I free-load, I'll have the game running while I do other things, and I'll set a timer to remind me to collect the cargo every 30 minutes. Sometimes I'll remotely log into my computer to do this if I'm not at my desk. However, not everyone can do that. To make a profit, you'll have to find a way to earn some of your merits without fast-tracking, either by free-loading some cargo or doing powerplay combat operations such as undermining and opposition. If you're only fast-tracking, kiss profits goodbye.

Once you hit 10,000 merits once, you get the 50 million salary at the end of the week. Then you only need 5334 merits to maintain it. If you spend your entire 50 million salary on fast-tracking Power Play Cargo, that leaves you with only 334 merits to gain via waiting for a free allotment, and that's a lot more manageable.

Since you get 50 tonne allotments at Rating 5, and a Type 9 would take 11 trips reach 5334 tonnes, most pilots usually get at least 11 free allotments. That's 550 tonnes for free, making 250 tonnes of your 5000 not fast-tracked. So, if you fortify a system that takes a 25 minute round trip, you can keep 2.5 million of your 50 million credits salary and still fast-track to maintain Rating 5 in 11 trips, without waiting for ages on the landing pad.

Most commanders will find that they earn more credits via the Rating 5 Power bonuses than from their salary.

Unless they are pledged to Patreus.

If you are in Powerplay to make money you are in the wrong game.

The whole point is seeing your power succeed no matter the cost to your credit balance, ship or sanity.

I'm thinking about this... Do you think it's quicker to earn 50Millions in a RES than gaining 5300 merits in Powerplay for the rank 5 salary? I think the RES is less boring and you can have fun with multicrew, at least.

It's never been fast to make the PowerPlay salary. If you're RES hunting, however, you'd need to average 280,899 credits per kill to match PowerPlay. However, you'd always be combining it with all kinds of missions (and PowerPlay ships do not qualify for any missions), at which point non-PowerPlay ends up being far more valuable. Throw in the faction influences and thus navy rank increases, doing PowerPlay for selfish reasons makes no sense.
