Fastest way to make credits

im fairly new and im a bounty hunter. my goal is to buy a Fer de Lance and i was just wondering if there is a faster way to make credits other than bounty hunting

The recognized fastest way to earn credits is rare commodities trading in the beginning until you can afford a 100 tonnes cargo ship or higher, then regular trading.
However, if you do bounty-hunting in a Resource Extraction Site in a Viper first, then Vulture, you can wrap up millions in a day easily. And I would say that is a much more fun way to do it for most players, and you especially, since you after all are aiming for a combat vessel.

Rare commodities trading in a Hauler first, then Cobra, should get you to an upgraded Viper or even Vulture within reasonable time, then you could do RES bounty-hunting after that, maybe?

Which ship would you recommend that fits the minimum 100t mark? Type 7? Asp (does 118 I think)?

For my load-outs:

  • Type 6 = 104 tonnes.
  • Asp = 120 tonnes.
  • Type 7 = 200 tonnes.

Type 6 is cheapest by far, even with the 20% discount on an Asp you could get in Alioth.

Trading would have been the standard way. You get yourself a Cobra fitted for 44 tonnes cargo, and work your way up to a Type-6 with 104 tonnes and you make a profit of around 10,000 cr a minute. Then to an Asp or directly to a Type 7.

BUT...

With the bounty hunting community goals at the moment, it's hard to deny that they're the way to riches, if you can't afford the 200 and upwards tonnes ships yet. That's at the moment; it may change with 1.3. The straight bounties for a bounty hunting CG at, say, a million an hour (close to what you could make trading), will be eclipsed or matched by the end-of-goal reward. The last one I got 22 million in bounties + 18 million end-of-goal reward in my Vulture. CGs have rather skewed the field!

Note to other readers this is the "fastest way" not the safest way.
The fastest way to make money is first to bounty hunt until you can afford a hauler or adder with some basic upgrades.
A fuel scoop, cargo racks, and the best FSD you can fit.
do not use a shield generator other than the lightest and smallest one until you feel comfortable flying the ship then remove it for more cargo.
then rare trade, and upgrade as soon as you can do the same loadout on the next in line traders. Again lightest shield, light components, good fuel scoop, all cargo, best FSD. Don't wait for insurance just enough to D rate everything but the fuel scoop and FSD. Keep a few thousand for rare items.
cobra
type 6
asp which can be purchased for 20% off at the far station in Alioth requires permit so make sure your rare stop has alliance stations in it. Get allied by selling rare at alliance stations and run a few missions for the Alioth independents in 78 ursae majoris to get the permit for Alioth.
once you get a type 7 stop trading rares and start with regular commodities.
now you lose the fuel scoop you're going to be buying fuel from now on. same principle as before though, upgrade asap, D rate everything but the FSD and buy the smallest class A power plant you can fit. You will need to keep more on hand to buy cargo. 1.5 for T7, ~3M for Python, ~5M for T9/conda.
running a shield on the T9 and conda isn't a bad idea because of the width of the T9 and the small penalty of running one on the conda. But if you want to make the monies run the T9 naked.

If you get interdicted by a pirate player (hollow square/triangle) comply with their demands. A death will set you a lot further back than any amount of lost cargo. But ideally you do not want to be anywhere near other players if you can help it. You want the 3-5th best route not the best route. Running without shields and not getting pirated will yield more funds on a lower paying route than running shields and fighting pirates on a more lucrative one. You want to make at least 2100k profit per ton round trip and that is really on the low side.

remember one must protect thy booty. But one must not die to do so.

if you get tired, do not keep going park the box and continue another day.
theres no one more when you're falling asleep, that's a good way to pancake into a station.
dont go to community goals without having insurance money. These are death pits half of the time.

a lot of people will not agree with this but this is exactly what I did in open play. I was in my asp by day 2, and once I made enough for that T7 with the upgrades I needed to run it, it wasn't long before I was in my conda.

HOWEVER this is just to answer your question. If you want my advice play every ship and enjoy every ship before you're spoiled by class 3 weapons and great shields. Make some mistakes and struggle to get by. Enjoy being broke because eventually you won't be and you'll have missed out on the fun of scraping to get by.

Thanks.

I've got I think around 12million credits in assets and wallet. I've got an A-equipped vulture and around 4m in bank. So I'll go asp I think. I think the type 7 is still out of my price range.

T-6 is cheaper.

Yes alot cheaper ,and it will earn you alot , all so you can use it as an exploring ship as well

You will need another 6 million to set the Asp up min, but the Type 6 can be set for less
