General / Off-Topic Favourite space-themed films

Self explanatory!

Apart from the obvious such as Star Trek and Star Wars (love Star Wars), what other films do you like? The more obscure the better!

Not so obscure, but I love Event Horizon! Such a great space horror. And I love Fifth Element. So weird yet wonderful.

Also love Alien and Aliens. Jupiter Ascending was also pretty cool. Let's try and put a full list together! I'll start it. And I know it's far from comprehensive at the moment! I added Alien 3 and Alien R for those who wanted it, even though I feel dirty now lol. PLEASE when submitting your suggestions, make sure it's not already on the list and that you INCLUDE the year! Takes me a while to look each one up otherwise. Thank you!

Galaxy Quest :)
and Paul if that counts as a space movie.

Oh and Mars Attacks if that counts as a space movie.

Lol added Galaxy Quest and Dark Star.

Paul and Mars Attacks, good films, but not so space themed in my opinion, as in no sustained space / planetary scenes.

Silent running
Dune
Spaceballs

Top space movie for me (You could tell, couldn't you? :) ). Have to watch it again every few months, or whenever I see it flipping through channels.

Apollo 13 (1995)
Armageddon (1998)

Also like the movie Sunshine (2007)
Had to go back and watch this one again when I first started playing E: D .After that very first jump with the star right in front of you reminded me of this movie.

C'mon! Mila "I'm Queen of the Galaxy" Kunis + Eddy Redmayne chewing scenery is acceptable but Alien 3 and Resurrection aren't? Resurrection is basically Firefly 1.0.

Gravity
Guardians of the Galaxy
Hunter Prey
Outlander
Pandorum
Pitch Black
Riddick
The Martian

Some Cheesey delights:
Battle Beyond the Stars
Flash Gordon
Starship Troopers

Animation:
Titan AI

Ender's Game (2013)

Yeah, the books were much better, but they did okay with the movie. And another book that was WAAAAAAAAY! better, but decent for a movie. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. (Personally, I like the old BBC radio version over the newest movie.)

Was just going to put down Outlander and Titan AE. Both very good. Here's my suggestion:

1. Starchaser: The Legend of Orin. Underrated Star Wars rip-off and a mostly forgotten classic.

Lots of good movies already listed!

I'm going to dig up a very obscure one: The American Astronaut. Samuel Curtis could be easily cut and pasted into Elite: Dangerous.

"Space Travel has become a dirty way of life dominated by derelicts, grease monkeys, and hard-boiled interplanetary traders such as Samuel Curtis."

Contact (1997)

I like the movie, plus the fact that Kip Thorne contributed to Carl Sagan's novel.

Nice one! We need Dr. Arroway to join The Cannon and figure out what these Probes and Artifacts are trying to say. I watch Contact at least once a year while crossing my fingers that SETI finally gets a confirmed signal.

Hope you're like me and are in SETI@Home.

Just watched a new space movie. I'm still debating whether its boring or genius. ISRA 88 (2016)

Space themed films. I think there should be some sort of traveling in there, as apposed to the invasion.

Total recall was put in from the start. And I agree with that.

But before there were flights to mars, there were first flights to the moon.

Airplane II: The Sequel (1982)

And you thought landing in E : D was hard...

Always enjoy watching Outland (1981).

Oblivion (2013).

Others have already mentioned Moon (2009), better than most in that list IMO, and The Martian (2015).

Didn't think Alien 3 was too bad (Resurrection though was simply awful).

How about Alien vs Predator (2004) does that count as a space film? Elysium (2013)?
