FC - Dark Mode

Dark Mode allows a play to go silent in the game. (may help in reducing server load)
No commodity trading is available in this mode.
No other players can see your FC using any tools (web included) in this mode.
You are off the grid to all intents and purposes as this will allow the player to choose their visibility.

FDEV: No location packs sent to servers at this time.

Using the FSS you can be located by other players.
If you ‘HONK’ then a ping is sent to the server giving a basic location of the FC in the channel.

FDEV: First location pack sent to servers at this time.

Only when you are fully scanned by the FSS is your full location sent to the server and location set.

FDEV: The full location packet can be added to the FSS Function in code.

FDEV: We love this game and want to help in whatever way we can.

The FC's are persistant objects, like stations, planets and stars, it would be like having an invisible planet, I doubt it can be done at the level the FC's are inserted in the game.

I had the same idea yesterday.

Remember the "Wing Beacon" our own Ships have?

Imagine having a simple "Carrier Beacon" to turn ON (Default) or OFF (EMCON 5 - Emission Control Level 5), making the Carrier vanish off the grid.
(changing it would require some cooldown due to Server propagation, likely similar to those ~15min Carrier jumps give)

A slightly more granular Version would ensure it only remains visible to those with Docking Permission, i.e. for all those with "Squadron/Friends only" Docking.

I had a similar idea too, and would love it.

So you can remain undiscovered if no-one sees you, and perhaps once you jump away in your FC you go dark again.

Oh I have no problem with carriers being essentially invisible, it annoys me immensly that once someone gets within a certain distance my carrier will pop up on the galaxy map for anyone who wants to find me, and that Inara can track carriers and list their locations. Once outside the bubble the only way someone should be able to find me is merest chance, if they just happen to jump into the same system, the chances of that are probably zero since I don't tend to hang around popular areas. Having a carrier vanish from the system map completely is probably impossible, just let me hide among the 400b stars in the galaxy, that's all I want.

Tbh, that's more or less what I expected to happen at least for the in-game Carrier GALmap Filter as soon as Docking Access was set to : none...
After all, not everyone wants to be seen and give away the position of their Carrier indeed.

Kinda pointless, anyone can bookmark a carrier, or place a tracker ship onboard with an alt account. Old Ducks Mod cleans up the HUD clutter, highly recommended.

I can also imagine the frustration of not being able to get a slot in a system, no visibility because most of the carriers are in Dark Mode. Unfortunately we need sys map visibility of carriers, at least to know what areas to avoid. I was unloading my carrier at a quiet tritium sell port, only three of us there, on the server tick it changed to a 1.7mill LTD port, within an hour the system was plagued with network issues due to all the carriers, I got out asap.
