FD: Apparently Elite got noticed, not in a good way

One of my old corp mates from EvE mentioned last night. Apparently a large group of players from multiple corps on EvE are deliberately targeting Elite... The plan is apparently to target and grief the living crap out of people, new players specifically until people quit and the game dies off.
I'd imagine eventually they'll lose interest and give up, but from the sounds of things you'll have a very large group (by Elite standards) of players from outside of the Elite community targeting your player base.

Would yer "mate" be willing to disclose the whereabouts or info on this "large group". We will compensate him for his troubles ;).
For you see - my wing is bored stiff. The crew is getting restless and we are desperate for some new targets.

Ok I am new here. only played about 20 or so hours. But if they tried to grief players, I see 3 things that can happen.
1/ Players get on forum and announce they are griefing a system, and the "real" players get on, jump there and rolf stomp them.
2/ You log off, go into solo, fly a few systems away, and log back into multiplayer.( have not tried, assume it would work.)
3/ Admins get in game(or maybe they see all not sure how it works) and just perma ban them. They make the cash for game sold, and the agreement we all sign starting game gives them the right to ban them all. If they want to still grief? well they spend more money to support the game.
So all in all I see no way any fools from that fail EVE game could hurt this game in anyway.

EvE.
mmmh.
ah it's that boring game where you have to wait (even logoff) to see your skills raising themselves automagically over time.
Well, thx, but I will play Elite, instead.

No idea. I'd assume they'd still be at the starting systems at this point if they've joined post Steam launch, unless they've already been playing in which case they are probably already known if they are here griefing newbies. If it is going on the forum is probably the best place to watch for it, people will complain.

Oh dear. Some people from a different game are (theoretically) going to grief half a million players and pay $40+ for the chance to do it because they don't play their game of choice.

Between this game, Star Citizen and whatever multiplayer that Space Engine-based titles will have, they are going to have their work cut out for them.

I've been celebrating Elite's Steam launch by spending the past 3-4 days in at LHS 3447 and Eravate... in a Sidewinder.

In that time, I haven't seen a single act of antisocial behavior by any player, new or seasoned. Not one.

I have seen a lot of new pilots trying out their ships, docking, playing in signal sources, conflict zones, etc.

I've chatted to some new pilots, helped them find menu options in their ship UI, and such things.

I spent most of last night in an impromptu wing with a Cobra and a Sidewinder. It was a riot. Went to bed in the wee small hours after some fantastic wing action. In a Sidey. Good times. :D

Absolutely no sign of anything but people having fun and learning the ropes. Very enjoyable.

I had a mate that told me about his mate who married the queen of scotland, had three kids and conquered brazil before sending a mission to jupiter and establishing humanity's first gas giant mining industry.

His anecdote turned out to be rather unreliable as well...

the police in high security systems need to respond fast to crimes, like concord in eve, and make safe systems actually seem safe.

what are they going to do gate camp oh wait. yea i think those eve guys are really overestimating there ability. killing noobs in sidys does nothing they lose nothing and disciver the solo buttion or they jump a few systems away.

They hang out around the Lave area predominately. That's where instead of a fight I got killed by being rammed.

On one hand, if they're successful then paying $60 is worth it. But if they fail then all they're doing is bolstering the position of the competition by contributing money and becoming prime targets for the players, such as myself.

And so I'm off to Lave to feast :D They'll be so mad when they realize they wasted their money and time.

I must admit, despite the numerous threads, I grossly overestimated the effect of PvPers and griefers. I play in Open. The only times I have are a) bad connection and using my phone and b) During a community goal when I couldn't get a kill because of the wings so switched to solo. Other than that I've fought, traded and explored in open.

I've /never/ been griefed.

There are, sadly, a lot of people who scream about the perils of open but have never actually tried it, thus perpetuating a myth.

That's rather unfriendly.

I found @CaptainKremmen's post to be both perfectly feasible and born out by my own experience.
I too have been to one of the starter system's to check out the newbies and I also didn't find a single example of bad behaviour in the 2-3 hours i was there.

I would bet that if he told that story to your face in a pub you wouldn't accuse him of lying.

I headed to the starter systems when the game went live on Steam with the intention of lending a helping hand for anyone that appeared to need some assistance in getting used to the game.
In however many hours I wasted floating around there, I didn't once see any griefing, abusive behavior etc.

Been doing the CG in Synteini running slaves to the station in my T6 had a few interdictions but escaped them all but does get the blood flowing

and generally played in open and this is the most I've been or attempted to be interdicted.

You get bad apples in all games but if EvE players want to help fund the game, good on them

as they will leave one day but they wont be able to get the money back

Jokes on them really, they're still paying the £40 to Frontier to buy the game, so they're scoring a fairly big own goal. At the same time, I can see a pretty decent "war on griefing" style thing popping up sometime soon, where decent Elite players will actively kill griefers. That's the sorta thing that makes games awesome, because yes, they're being irritating and trying to ruin the game, but by making a bunch of other players join up in a war against them, it just adds an extra level of immersion to the game.

Another example of this i've experienced is in Reign of Kings: you'll get a group of players who log in and start killing everyone, so eventually everyone else in the server gets together and decides to kill/capture and imprison the griefers. In my humble opinion, for all RoK's flaws, that's just one of the best experiences in gaming: when you can take something that's inconvenient and annoying, and turn it into a part of the game which adds immersion and fun.

So I say bring it! Us Elite players will be waiting ;)

Any proof of that? Or did you just make it up?

Most people play PVE, not PVP. To try and attempt to claim that most people picked it up for the multiplayer is just not something you can back up.

What a load of tosh. I see people in open everywhere I go.
