FD: Can combat taxis get SCO? Like, right now please. Pretty Please. Would be such a QOL improvement for us squaddies.

My only reservation is that I barely trust docking computers. Giving the NPCs the means to burn through all their fuel in a minute or so, and the ship for that matter, would concern me.

"Hello commander. As we take off today, shall we see if you get to your destination? Or are we going to suffocate in the depths of space or burn until we're both immolated husks tumbling through the endless void? I guess we'll have to wait and see!" maniacal laughter

NPC's commonly have gotten to get to cheat in little ways all the time, mostly to save on processing/background sim overhead. The npc's in Cz's/Hazres never run out of ammo unless their explicitly fighting another player but you never notice that anyway because they die so fast. The fuel draining on a taxi could just be window dressing for all we know.

Why just combat taxis though? Why not all taxis? Or all NPC ships? I feel more and more like The Chosen One when playing this game as updates progress.
Lets start small and give them the new ships first. I have yet to see a NPC flying a Python MK II, Type 8, Mandalay.

Apex buying a fleet of Mandalays to use for Express Taxis sounds like a thing that could happen. Need to go far and in a hurry? Book an Apex Express Shuttle with our new Mandalay shuttles!

The Mandalay does have a second seat after all and you can just try to run that thing out of fuel in SCO mode. Like I flew 250k ls out from a star on SCO and didn't even spend half the fuel. Apex building theirs with extra fuel tanks and it probably could go to Hutton Orbital

Well your post made my day. Lol.

Yeah, it would be nice if the Taxis had SCO... but since they aren't using SCO optimized ships, I don't see that happening. That's kind of like expecting all your Taxis/Ubers/Lyfts to be high-end sports cars, will to do twice the speed limit (or more) to get you to your destination.

A good compromise would be for the Adders (or Vultures for CZs) to have SCO drives and only use them to escape the gravity wells. That would be a nice boost of time. However, I'm worried about all the potential bugs that would introduce that may ruin taxis for a long period of time until quashed. Remember how long it took them to fix the Rotation Correction bug? Yeah, may be best to leave this alone.

Apex Interstellar may still be amortizing the original investment in bureaucracy, counters, clerks, Adders, and pilots for several decades before they would be in an investment position for fuel scoops and new FSDs

Wait... they don't have fuel scoops? The maximum travel distance for Apex is 100 ly, right? I guess that is easily within the range for an adder.

I have a hard time not installing fuel scoops on any of my ships. Even on my AX ships, I try to squeeze in a tiny fuel scoop... just in case.
