FD is fifthcolumned!

You think the mechanic of Powerplay is stupid, pointless and useless? No, that's a sign! It is a chiphered message from someone in FD to the outer world.

Think of this:
Powerplay is not rulled by powers' heads, instead it's rulled by players. Not only that, but it's not even a democracy where decicions would be made by votes (nor it is a represantative democracy where votes could choose a leader [or a group of leaders] among the players to make decisions for the useless power head). Instead it's anarchy where everyone pull in their own direction like swan, pike and crawfish (go read it, it's just 13 lines).
Powerplay is highly affected by fifthcolumning. Players pledge to the powers other then those they actually support, so they can undermine them from inside. And they succed in leading other powers towards directions that would hurt them. It makes the power head in the direction of their own fall.

Now, doesn't it ring a bell?
Something having a great potential, but moving so straighforwardly into abyss that it can't be seen as not being deliberate?
I'll provide a hint: it starts with "Elite" and ends with "Dangerous".
At first I thought maybe FDev jsut don't know what they are doing with their game, like aforementioned swan, pike and crawfish, and so there's no progress in making the game better. But with every change they make to the game they manage to actually make it worse, and it's so sonsistent, I fail to believe anymore that it is not deliberate. There is certainly a fifth column within FDev that tries their best to ruin the game and so far they are successfull. They are now critically close to the point where the current mechanics can't be fixed anymore to save the game and needs to be reworked from scratch (though, I'm afraid they may be already beyond that point, but I hope for good).

That similarity of what happens to ED developement and the mechanics of Powerplay is not acidental. Someone in FD put it into the game to inform us of the situation whithin FDev, they also couldn't say it open as they can't trust anyone. And how Powerplay is not rulled by the actual powers is a loud sign of how ED developement isn't lead by DB, maybe it's actually his scream for help. "Help! Theey don't let me make a good game and do whatever they want instead, it all has gotten completely out of control! Save Elite: Dangerous before it collapsed like Arissa did!" he's shouting at us.
What can be done to help though? Disband FDev and spend money on DB's new kickstarter campaign for a real Elite 4? Or is there still a way to save the current Elite?

I do have a spare tinfoil hat if you'd like one !

That's the best post I have seen in months. Thanks. :)
I don't believe that some internal element of FD is deliberately trying to ruin E: D. That would be silly, they only have to sit back and watch the others do it for them. ;)

It is clear that the OP is not completely serious, but presents a real and frustrating problem in a clever and humorous way. Good job.

So far it does not need to be saved, its doing pretty good.

What you mean is "Can it be changed into what I want?". Dunno, since the Devs are the ones working on it it depends on how much what they want crosses with what you want. Which I can't really tell.

Very right. I don't seriously believe in a conspiracy, but I'm concerned about how the development not only goes the wrong way, but keeps on this path, which make it seem intended and not just a mistake.

What I want is for the game to make sense, and it bothers me that it doesn't seem like the developers want the same.

...what's your next suggestion...Uwe Boll as the director?

-pulls out my lawn mounted thermonuclear garden gnome and fires it at Snarf for the mere mention of that walking disaster-

On a more serious note, OP I think you may have accidentally ingested that tinfoil hat instead of wearing it.

I heard that the components that make up the Orbis station spell out the word XBox and that Michael Brookes was replaced by an look-a-like. If you play back Super Cruise 2 from the original CD sound track (it must be the CD version not the digital download) at the correct speed in reverse you can clearly hear "PC is dead...PC is dead" being chanted.

That's what I heard.

Or is there still a way to save the current Elite?

If the Fdevs and FD itself actually listen and care about the community instead of busy counting the cash in their hands... maybe... (excluding Sarah/AI department from this)

(Or just play their own game for once and realize how broken it is in multiple aspects)

I saw that 33% off on steam FD, I'm not blind...

Hah...

OP - I've reread your post a couple of times, and am honestly not sure what you're getting it. I think it'a conspiracy theory coupled with an impractical suggestion.... perhaps? Either way, I think Elite/FD is doing just fine. I really do.

Hanako, please continue. I'm interested in what you have to say.

Can you break your reasoning and observations down in to a simple ten point bullet list. Something we can all understand objectively.

I can put it all in two points:
1. Many of the game mechanics are so poorly designed they should be reworked from scratch to make any sense.
2. With each update where they "improve" those mechanics or introduce new ones that are even more poorly designed it gets harder to throw it all away and rework it from scratch to bring common sense into the game.

I think the men in black will be knocking on your door soon... DB's new kickstarter campaign for a real Elite 4?... I don't think I can go through all that again......

If power is democratic it should have elections once a week. Once a week pledged commanders can vote what their power will do next turn like one vote per player pledged. Other democratic power would have elections maybe once in a week or maybe once in a month and they would choose their leaders for next cycle or month/week. Leaders could have power to give orders and change where power is going like stopping all expansion, start wars agains other powers or make peace with other powers in away that pledged pilots have to follow. And of cource there would also be dictators and the power would be under the command of the most powerful player or player group pledged.

DB and co care only about your money. Once you pay, you turn into a nuisance they try to get rid of. And not just a nuisance but a tangible cost because you use bandwidth and server resources FD pays for.
So FD don't want players to hang around for long. Buy the game, play some weeks then go away. It is not a conspiracy theory, it is pure logic, dictated by the management.

Ever since KS, early access etc, a portion of game devs turned into conmen. They sell promises and dreams, instead of actual work, then release some polished turd and run away. If you get a faulty product, you can sue. If you get a faulty game, what can you do? Unless the devs get too greedy and lie too big (DB did that :D), the court will throw the case out and the devs will get away legally.
