FD making the game they want - quite literally

Frontier develops the game, that it wants, This is a fact and this is normal. But Frontier has also constraints, of time, of money and others problems like all the companies in the world

They can still bounce back strong, but there simply has to be more QA. My keybinds have vanished since the PowerPlay update, this is a major pain in the butt. as I had my stick, my keybinds and head tracking fixed just the way I wanted it. I can't be bothered to log-in and sort it all.

Development is slow, as they obviously don't have the resources they had during the main development cycle. The free updates to the game thus far have been features that should have been in launch anyway.

I guess I am disappointed with Frontier, those new to the game blinded by it's apparent complexity and striking visuals don't see the game for what it really is yet but over time they will. No-one I know plays anymore, and most of those were early backers of the game. I do however log back in just to fly about asteroids a bit, because damn, it feels like i'm in star wars :)

I really hope that Frontier is doing well financially as I'd love to invest more time into it when promising features to start to show up, but I can't convince myself that the game is going to last that long.

I must be deluded then. I still love the game (even more so after the PP update), but I don't think I qualify for the category "new to the game", as I've been playing as much as possible since early September. It is okay to voice discontentment. ED, for better or for worse, is definitely an acquired taste, but it would be great if people would stop making the assumption that they are talking for "the majority of players" or that their opinion of the game must be the only valid one because [age/youth/playtime/size of their GPU/...]

I know FD put a lot of effort in to PP and they are very proud of it. I'm actually disappointed in myself that I hate it. I try to like PP but just can't. I'm not necessarily against what they tried to do, but Elite isn't a board game and having to deal with merits and CC points just ruins the immersion for me.

I think FD have lost their way a little, I dare say they are listening to much to the community and trying to provide content they think people want rather than sticking to the game they set out to build. I have every confidence in them but PP is a huge step in the wrong direction, for me.

Well I'm no expert here; but I did play 'Eve' for quite some time a few years ago. This game has none of Eve's spreadsheet design in it; but some of the game goals are becoming familiar...

Don't let the snowflakes hear you say that. Going around suggesting that players are pawns in the chess game of galactic powers. Their little power fantasies would sooner collapse than they can say "I'm special." Sometimes, you can actually taste the arrogance in the air.

Anyhow;

Frontier said time and time again that they are making the game they want to play. They'll add systems to it they want to add. All you can do is give feedback why it's broken / how it can be improved. Get used to that thought.

Who cares what other peoples views are on Powerplay on another forum, what counts is player activity. FD have already said many are flocking to Powerplay and ae playing it. So i expect when they used those words, they were based on their stats.

Yes some people will not like it, some will express their individual minority views on other forums about powerplay, it doesn't mean those words are fact and definitely they are not the words of the majority.;)

Fyrd Judge, There already is a poll on this forum regarding Powerplay as it stands; and while not 50/50 its pretty close. So a size-able percentage does not like Powerplay...

Well obviously, what else would you expect? If you were making a game, wouldn't you make the game YOU want to play? That's the only way to make anything good, in any art form. Be true to yourself, make what you like. The second you start making something based purely on what you think others will like, it won't be as good.

Well, if you were making a game 100% for your own benefit, as children in playgrounds tend to do, you soon find out nobody else will join in. To me it feels like by far the most fun you can have with powerplay is if you are the one pulling the strings, in this case FD. We're just puppets in the game is how it feels to me.

I know there's already lots of opinions and threads about powerplay, but it struck me that the people having the most fun with powerplay are FD themselves. They're the ones shaping things, they get to make dozens of people participate and react to whatever events they inject. It quite literally feels to me as if they are the ones playing the deep game, and we're just their pieces on the board.

Disclaimer - I'm not participating in powerplay.

I must admit I've had similar thoughts. Its as if the seduction of creating an elegant and self sustaining, procedurally generated micro-climate has won out over the more pedestrian story-telling and hand coded quests/mission that we might have hoped for.

I'm not having a dig, I love the game to bits, but I sort of regret the resources and effort that went into an aspect of the game that holds little appeal for me.

If I'd been drawn in through a sequence of connected and immersive missions, and then given a choice about which leader I wanted to follow, based on my experiences, and what I'd discovered, that could work if they kept up the intrigue, but it seems more like,

"Right, you've got red-neck, liberal chick, hard-posterior, psycho and sexy - which one are you Pledging your Allegiance to? Come on, step lively!" :-/
