FDEV - can we have access to Thargoids too please!

You need to stop your Cargo Hatch going below 90%, every 10% increases the chances of losing cargo (If I am wrong on the second point then I at least know the chance of it happening starts at 90%).

But I disagree in general, I'm afraid. I think there should be a 4t Cargo rack, but I don't think it should go any bigger than that. I certainly don't think they should be available everywhere.

You do realise they're not returning until 2.4 don't you?
Yes I do. What I'm saying is that the majority of the new features they are adding are very poorly implemented, and I don't see that changing.

And spending those money on a not gaming machine..

OK, on a more serious note, what are the technical difficulties to having horizon on Mac? Honest question here

No compute shader support. Apple have moved away from OpenGL in favour of their Metal api, but it's not really suited for gaming.

I'm not sure at all if this would work, but if I were going to try to do this without the special racks, then I would try using a ship that can carry a fair amount of cargo, load up half of something cheap, grab the items, fill the rest of the hold with more cheap stuff, and hope that the cheap things get jettisoned if the hatch fails. Naturally, I would have an AFMU or two as well.

I would also say:

Be thankful Palin doesn't have the G5 FSD upgrades. Frontier could have done that, but they deliberately didn't. In fact, for any non-Combat activity in the game you can get away with only unlocking Farseer...which I'm pretty sure is also deliberate.

Just saying.

Just be happy that you don't own the MacOS version of the game...

Actually I have a lot of sympathy for those people with a Mac. After the Windows 10 'free update' fiasco that totally trashed my otherwise ok pc, I switched to using a Mac Pro. Then I found out that Elite was back.... Awesome! But Horizons only plays on the PC... Not so Awesome! I end up buying another windows pc after swearing blind I'd never buy another windows pc just so that I can play ED Horizons...

Owning a Mac imho is only cool if you work with computers.(like using it for your profession) If you only play on computers having a Mac is a joke.(on you)

Not necessarily if you are into video editing or photo editing, graphic design... Need I go on. I'm a heavy Photoshop user (I enter images into international salons). A Mac does the job pretty well.

I don't want to ruin your rant, but....
You can buy Corrosive resistant cargo racks from Palin the second you unlock him. You don't need grade 5. Just go into his outfitting, and there they are!

That's very nice but what hoops do you need to jump through to unlock him?
If the requirement is a bung load of work (and I hear it is, cannot face the boring grind myself) then the current Thargoid content is walled off behind that grind.
Sure you could faff around repairing your ship and hoping your cargo hatch doesn't spit it out the things it took you hours to find but why does it need to be such a massive faff?
It's painful and just doesn't need to be.
Just add CRCRs to normal outfitting and stop making ED a pain to play.

Glad I got acess to all the engineers asap. I used my common sense a long time ago. Better to use your initiative than get all salty and want fd to change the game.

I'd settle for a corrosive resistant SRV. :p

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead

^^^ This!

After spending around 6 hours to get a UP and UA, and previously storing away corrosive resistant cargo racks, its kind of annoying to learn that SRVs aren't great at carrying this stuff. I was keeping a eye on the SRV's life support system while in Thargoid Central.

And, another request for the UP spawn rate to be increased. 3+ hours to find one is nuts. Over 3 hours doing nothing but hanging close to ammonia worlds in multiple systems. Not great gameplay.

I just hope that anti-Thargoid Engineer upgrades don't require stuff found in those bases. Its not as if we can store away UAs and UPs until 2.4.

Whilst i agree that having the cargo racks locked behind such a long winded engineer to unlock is daft, that isnt really much of a problem. Carrying a UP and UA without them is fairly easy, and with an AFMU you can really carry them for ages. I carried 2 yesterday for 2 hours before i even needed to start repairing stuff.

The real problem imho, is that there are many players out that who, through no fault of their own or lack of trying; have NOT seen a single Thargoid. They havent been hyperdicted, seen them do whatever it is their doing at the barnacles or managed to activate the goid machine. This is because every single one of these is behind an RNG wall.

I personally believe that as paying customers everyone is entitled to see all the content available in the game if they actually try or work towards it but in Elite that isn't actually possible even if you dedicate ALL your game time to it; if RNG says no, no it is.

Soon the hyperdiction will be taken out of the game when the goids arrive no doubt and people will have never gotten to have seen it.

I personally think this is bad design choice.

I dont get the "DAT GRIND!!11!" thing here...
I agree that especially the Qwent unlocking isnt something i would call fun but (given you have the 5kLY for Palin) can easylie be done in a couple of hours

Totally agree on a CrCr SRV though [yesnod]

Don't want to sound smug but I unlocked all the engineers months ago partly because I thought it was obvious that something like this was going to happen.
I think FD should of made the cg for Palin easier though only being able to carry two unkown objects means I have to swap the rack out when not using it, and I hate the way we have to find UP's it took me several hours to find one, so I made sure to pass it to another cmdr when I was finished to save him the hassle.

Out of curiosity, what makes macs so good at that compared to win machines nowdays?

As a photographer i use Lightroom and Photoshop daily; i gotta be honest the hype behind MACs is over-rated to a degree. By to a degree i mean PCs and MACs are just as good at those things as eachother however.... MacBook's are leagues better than Laptops. Every Laptop ive ever had is like depleted uranium; after 6 months its so unfathomably slow using any form of photo editing software is near impossible.

MACs really do get a bum deal with Elite though.

There's a wider range of specs with PCs compared with Macs, so it's easy to pick up a 'cheap' PC that becomes redundant more quickly than the costlier ones. I'm not seeing that degradation in performance with my HP Omen laptop.

Have you been loading UAs into your computers? :D

Haha, probably! Didnt get the corrosive resistant laptop!

In fairness it has been a good 6-7 years since i got a Laptop for that reason. My MAC does take 20 years to start it i turn it off fully but runs well when on/after sleep mode.

I have copied/pasted my comment from the Multi-Crew thread because I suspect it better belongs here:

I can't help feeling that, with a little more forward planning, the multi-crew could have worked very well with the Thargoid developments that are happening now.

Any commanders who hadn't unlocked Pailin could join a ship and help speed up the search for UAs, probes, etc. and help scan for new sites. It would have made a good team effort and give more commanders the feeling they were participating in a story that was unfolding for everyone to enjoy.

The multi-crew, properly designed for this in mind, would have provided an enrichment of the game, instead of a descent into mere pew-pew.

No excuses, FD knew this was coming and should have planned for it !

Since Apple abandoned the SD and USB slot it's kind of masochistic to use them for Photography. You are right about the Macbooks, I have two from 2011 and they still work like a charm. There is no plastic layer between keyboard, case and mainboard though, which means every liquid gets directly on the important parts. Replacing stuff is also a PITA. HP is way more professional in this regard. I also don't like that they always use glare displays. Microsoft builds some very high quality products too, and they are actually still innovative without just changing ports for no reason.
