Fdev Feedback on Carrier Questions

Looks around innocently
I wonder how many times the Fuel Rats will rescue you before they drop you as a client for being too lazy to refuel yourself?

Imagine if FCs have independent and huge storage spaces, fuel rats will be using them to help other stranded FCs. Otherwise, we may see some fuel rats retiring as alumni members expecting priority fuel assistance :sneaky:

I think the main purpose of this is to support squad members and friends with landing permission, I think it was said earlier that you can assign landing permission to peoeple who you want to be able to land, I doubt there's a general "public" setting. It would be hard on a player if they were exploring with a friend with a fleet carrier and it vanished just when they were desperate for repair.

We dont know what settings there will be at all. I was just Theory Crafting.
But the idea of a Public setting creates a number of gameplay opportunities which might be interesting.

The support ship, will it be like the trailer you tow because you can't fit everything in you car?

Will there be any interaction with the support ship, do you have to schlepp stuff to and fro for re-supply?

Or a simply useless appendage that is just there? Mere speculation. We'll see...

For far too many I fear that “useless appendage” is called a “head”.

Perhaps it's an arbitrary attempt to limit the amount of jumps, otherwise the furthest reaches of the galaxy would be very accesible, and would lose some of its mystery as a result, among other factors. I think this new fuel will be fairly expensive, just guessing though of course.
Based on no evidence whatsoever, I fancy this is correct. The carrier can't just behave like a normal ship with a 500Ly range, else that's what it would be used as. So there has to be something which makes it harder and/or more time consuming to move.

Given how much they've cleared up, it's still slightly worrying that FDev hasn't confirmed a ship-transfer facility, or shuttle, or some other means whereby the owner can load more than one of his own ships onto the Carrier (the "now how do I leave this ship here and go fetch the next one?" problem).

it would be somewhat unlikely that they would overlook that, but...

And while I've always assumed that a personal Carrier would have a limited ship capacity (and the trailer does use the word "capacity"), a few optimists want to believe that each pad has hangars for multiple ships under it. That could be cleared up too.

And for the life of me, I still don't get why Carrier cannot be self sufficient and has to be paired with some support vessel... I mean size alone should provide more than enough room for fuel, cargo capacity and whatnot.

Well first, I do not think that it HAS to be paired with one, but it is an option. Second, it makes much more sense to have support ships come out depending on the mission. Otherwise we would be swapping out core parts of the ship, and these are too big to be overhauling all the time. Carriers are presumably not as easily modified as the smaller ships.

Im assuming they do not want us to have access to all of the services provided by the support ships at the same time (maybe op?).

Wouldn't it make more sense to just have Carrier speciality kinda locked? When you want to build Carrier for Exploration, you can't just swap it for Combat one. Still, there will be an option to scrap, buy new one and go through grind all over again. Wouldn't it make Support Vessels obsolete? Current design just feels too cluttered...
Also may benefit Squadrons and people joining them, as in Squadron there shouldn't be a problem of having several Carriers of different specs you can use together.

I just don’t think it makes sense to scrap and get a new carrier every time the mission changes. How would that be better in any way?
