FDEV level of communication...

I can't be sure if your British or not so this may make little sense to you, but do the BBC pay you 24 cents a week to watch their programs? Does any TV company? Free money is free money, end of.
I am more of the type that either goes all in or doesn't even start at all. If you are going to do something, do it right or don't do it at all. 24 cents a week is less than a half baked offer that only serves as a tool to even the negative part of the new currency system Elite now has to offer: That you can't purchase products directly and may have unused money in your account. See if you only want that single paint job but you are having 0 ARX you must buy the cheapest pack that has enough ARX for like 6 paint jobs or so, effectively wasting your money for additional 5 paint jobs. Luckily FDev decided we can earn them but with an utterly low cap of 400 ARX per week we may have to play for several months to even out the differences between two packs, especially of higher tier.

And no, I will not think about purchasing a cheaper one on top of a medium one because that would reduce the ARX/currency value. But then again, luckily I am not planning to invest any further as long as the major issues haven't been resolved in Elite.

A good starting point would be 200 ARX per day. That's 12 cents per day. And while that isn't necessarily that much for a palyer, it certainly adds up for a company like FDev.
But that is a nice compensation for the madness we have to deal with in the during the past years like the heat bug, fighter lags, bugs that won't get fixed for months/years and the ever lasting lack of balancing changes.

Are you demanding a pay rise to play the video game ?.
Basically, you can call it like that. If you gonna do something, do it right. So if you gonna introduce currency earning tied to real world money, don#t cap it to such utterly low values that can't even out half of the differences of medium to big tier ARX packs in a matter of weeks.

A random Youtube video? Please...

We got details about Fleet Carriers 4 months before their release. Anyway, you're of course entitled to your opinion, just as I am to mine :)

You mean after their release. Don't forget that fleet carriers were planned for chapter 4. We got information after their official release date and since it hasn't been stated when they were gonna be released this year or how long the delay would be, I don't buy this that we got information beforehand. We merely got the information of left out content a week before chapter 4.
And the hype about fleet carriers is a miracle for me as well. They are just delivering late content from chapter 4 and people buy it as a real update? Besides carriers we don't even know what special content is coming apart from some QoL improvements maybe and a hand full of bug fixes and most likely next to no balancing changes.

Also this video isn't random, if you watched it, you will realize that there is a greatly upvoted reddit post behind it stating 100 questions to the developers of which none have been answered, not even a "can't talk about this" for all the questions that may interfer with some marketing strategies. The reaction was utter silence beforehand and straight forward ignoring all questions, which clearly shows the intention of not to communicate with the community.
Yamiks also is now a not-so-unknown Elite Youtuber and his views are above average.

What hourly rate do you think would be reasonable ?.

Many studios keep same level of communication as FD.
But difference is that FD did make business out of ED trought KS where they talked and attracted all those backers with fairy tales about atmo landings, big game hunting, legs, gas gians...etc and non of them happened 6 years after release, instead we had poor halfbaked buggy updates.
Even after KS those DB interviews and plans keep attracting new players with currently titled "fairy tales".
In one interview DB said they don't want to do empty planets with nothing on it to keep player busy, they want to do it right with floura and fauna ...0etc.
Some time later they released 2.0, quite opposite from what he said...lifeless empty planets without atmo which was best update in last 5 years lol.
After FD gained financial stability with two other games suddenly they stoped talking about those "big plans", DB stopped giving interviews about gas giants and other things they're apparently working on for years.
So i see where all negativity comes from, it turned out DB was selling fog, or not...we'll see next year!

On a personal note, I'm not bothered by how communicative FDev are or not, all that really matters to me is that they announce downtime, updates and things we're getting 'soon'. I don't care to know how often they go to the loo, wipe their nose or pop to the pub...

Yeah FDEV, I demand better payment for playing video games!

What hourly rate do you think would be reasonable ?.
Hourly rate is less of a concern than the max cap you can earn per week. IMO difficult challenges such as beating a Hydra should reward alot of ARX whereas performing basic missions such as haulage or data transfer should reward just a hand full, if any ARX.

The maximum cap per week simply means that I need to do a weekly grind for 1.5 years in order to unlock a single ship kit. Raising this cap and balancing the rewards to a more reasonable level could very well create a new gameplay reason to do certain activities because as it stands now, killing thargoids has no gameplay reason to it. Credits are inflated and their dropped mats are useless. But if I can earn only 400 ARX per week, I'd rather just not play at all as the reward is too low to be worth my time.

I'd be even happier if there wouldn't be the possibility to earn ARX at all over the current absurdly low and arbitrary number of 24 cents per week. It's a pseudo, half-baked nonesense that is IMO just harmful as it is nothing of value while still not being nothing either.

They still need to have an incentive for people to buy Arx. If the cap is too high, nobody will bother to buy them. 400 a week seems about right, but the proof is in the pudding.

Ragequitting a video game on the basis it doesn't pay enough seems a bit bonkers to me. I just play the video games I like for fun.

Everyone is welcome to put in one hour of overtime a week in lieu of 5 hours of playing Elite and then simply buy the Arx. You'd save 4 hours per week that way.

Why you'd need/want Arx then, I don't know.

I'd start with polishing the game, fixing bugs and do frequent balancing updates. I ain't gonna invest any additional cent into Elite in its current state. The recent updates had next to nothing important for long term palyers and really only draw the attention of newcomers, probably just to make even more money.
