FDEV, please confirm that...

As a veteran pilot, I personally have absolutely no need or desire for any of the proposed new mods. IF their use is mandated and take additional slots than I have issues; If they are removable, then I don't.

Must be said, I don't know why FD referred to it as the loop of shame. I'm pretty sure that Alec Turner tested four different approach choices to a station, and the apparent loop of shame was still quicker than the safely keeping the throttle in the blue option. It's hardly shameful if it's quicker. ;)

Everything I've read says that they can be removed and replaced with something more useful.

Autopilot is mandatory. Failure to engage it will result in ship destruction.

So it's been, what, three days now, and I'm still astonished that people apparently need an autopilot for flying in a straight line with the throttle set in the middle.

That's why I'm sharpening my own pitchfork, I'm just not sure whom to wave it at.

Some people need it, other people want it. Both for a variety of reasons.
There is a very big difference between these two things.

There's a time vs approach comparison here:

Errrmmm.... if that Supercuise Assist is changing the throttle on its own, how is this going to work with a HOTAS? Last time I looked, my throttle didn't have a motor.

I find my joystick drifts up slightly if I'm not careful when I let my hand off it. (it's old-ish, and I'm waiting for it to finish wearing out to get a new one) So I'm going to be annoyed if it doesn't keep my going in a straight line. I'd like to be able to pick through menus and stuff while SCing without worrying about speed, yes; but also direction drift...

Same way the 75% throttle key you can program works I should imagine - throttle stays at 75% until you move the throttle control, then it resumes whatever throttle you have set. You can try it now ;)

You would likely throttle back to engage the SCA. After that, the game doesn't need your input to adjust speed.
Presumably, when you throttle up, SCA is then disengaged.

Your controller only sends commands when you move it. Also, I expect the auto SC will override your throttle. But even without it you can hit a key mapped to 75% throttle on your keyboard and it will work so long as you don't move the throttle.

Alt-tabbing out works for me in this case, if I don't need to do anything in game.
