FDEV time for a carrot

Like with fleet carriers, any nugget of information would spawn countless threads with people debating over how it should work and how they think it will work, all based off pure speculation.

The more they say and give details, the more people will pull them up for it if the final implementation doesn't match it. The more they give details, the more threads will appear with people telling them how they are doing it wrong.

I mean, personally, i'd love to know more about what is coming, and the more details the better, but from a devleoper perspective, i can see how its just better to not say anything until you are close to delivery and know exactly what you are delivering, and people can tell you all they want about how you are doing it wrong, it doesn't matter, because its already done.

While agreeing with those who don't want fdev to reveal stuff before it is ready I do think they could be maybe answering some of the questions about carriers (and there are a lot). By now they must have the basics nailed down - does it have a shipyard? how often can it jump? how many ships can a single commander have on board? how many ships on board total? can they be public for all to land at? do they have storage? is there a gift shop?* - these are all design decisions that they are unlikely to change at a whim - so setting the expectation / hype might be a good idea.

ofc the issue is that whatever the answers half will say 'meh, it had to be like that' and the other half will say 'unacceptable! you must rethink!'. But keeping quiet just puts off the grumblefest 🤷‍♀️

* ok, maybe not that one ;)

If we are dreaming, it is perhaps better not to receive a carrot.

We wouldn’t want to be disappointed later. :)

Such carrots only encourage dreamcrafting (theorycrafting taken to Star Citizen levels of absurdity) anyway, and yes, leads to dissapointment when the devs fail to fulfil everyone's dreams. Especially when everyone has their own different dream about what it will be.

Well, there was nothing in the update to be disappointed by... fixes are normal course for a service game.

In truth i was expecting there to be less given frontiers tail between legs attitude they took with elite dangerous for all of 2019.. so better than expected.
'normal fixes' would be welcome. But Fdev only comes a long occasionally and with a small patch makes profitable mining a non profit endeavor. I get the bug fixes. I get that bug fixes make even more bugs (shouldnt but in their case its routine). But i cant understand the mining market nerf. That was unnecessary.

People who don't want to spend a year-and-a-half doing missions for money to be able to afford a Corvette didn't have to. people that want to make all of their money once or twice a month and then spend the rest of their time doing what they enjoy could. But this makes me feel like im going to work, not playing a game. Imo thats broken.

it would be easier to have the same dream if we were told what we were supposed to be dreaming about instead of a vague silhouette of what our dream should look like

what you say makes perfect sense. I’m really hoping we will get atmospheric landing and will be really disappointed if we don’t (but kind of expecting not to).

I would rather that hope be extinguished for sure now with some sort of hint rather than fine details but I get why they don’t say anything.

Expecting to be disappointed is probably a safe bet

We will never share a common dream. Best we can hope for is to be told exactly what we are getting, but they can't say that until they know for sure what they will deliver.
in other words the devs should probably know what they're doing before they start doing things? What kind of crazy world do you live in? 😉

" FDEV time for a carrot"

Personally I think we the community should be offering FDev a carrot once in awhile. This is a GOOD update. Yes, it has some launch day bugs, but Frontier is working hard to fix those bugs. Reward good behavior, punish bad behavior. This update is "good behavior", so let's not discourage Frontier with constant griping over every little tiny thing we can think of to complain about (including the future which hasn't even arrived yet).

Not everyone agrees that it is good though. There should be an in game poll to see what ALL commanders actually think. This isn't going to happen but at least we'd get a more realistic idea of what everyone thinks, not just us volatile and/or white knight furomites

Isn't that how you end up appealing to the lowest common denominator?

As a personal observation I am surprised that we have had not a whisper about Fleet Carriers following the "delayed" announcement and reiterations of "coming Q2, 2020".

Weren't they announced as ready for December 2019, prior to the bug-fixing decision? If they were ready, and will be released upon the game in Q2 as mentioned, why do we know nothing concrete about them?

Q4 2020 is still an average of 10 months away, things for 'New Era' may still be in a mild state of flux (as I couldn't imagine any major change is going to occur this late in development!) so being cautious and not discussing content is almost understandable - I say almost as if things change radically from their 'map' as developed and the release, we'll just end up with broken code...

Perhaps the 'nerf' in mining profits will serve to generate sufficient discontent to distract a large chunk of the playerbase from asking other 'difficult' questions :) - who knows...

Again, if FC's are due in Q2, shouldn't we expect a beta in the next few weeks to test the code, then maybe a gamma shortly before release? If so, we really do need to know more about them.

Has anyone run this carrot through Coriolis, what size PD is installed, how many Huge Hardpoints, are there any restricted military slots to screw up the calculations? Nope, not going to touch this carrot until The Pilot has told me it is a worthwhile ship to add to my fleet.
