General / Off-Topic FDEV Year End Final Results posted (year ending May 31st 2017)

Interesting how Tencent now have a man on the inside so to speak in terms of a none executive director James Mitchell, who is the chief strategy officer at tencent.

So looks like they will be influencing the future direction of the company.

OK, so not with the mod hat on.

Believe it or not directors of companies who have share options exercise those options from time to time. I checked BT at random as well, its directors have all had share dealings, including selling, in the last month. I assume as a result BT is doomed.

I then checked EA, being another games company. All of its directors have sold shares since 1 January this year. Clearly it too is doomed.

Considering the FD announcement you will notice that the 'sale' described is a transfer of nil value to a spouse. So maybe not getting out at all. Just read the announcement to see that.

This is a normal business transaction, it's a non-event. But feel free to try and incite mass hysteria, as people have been doing every time there's any form of announcement. FD has been proclaimed dead at least three times a year every year since I've been here, and yet, here we are still.

Yeah, well, did you know DB also got a salary? How do you explain that, huh?!

Directors cashing in on successful launch of both PC and ED, releasing ordinary shares.

What did I miss there? As for David's share falling, we already established he is in formal minority now. Jobs also was. As long there's no some serious fail with deliveries and sales (and if there is FD is in trouble anyway), I just don't see anything changing in leadership.

Not every company has US style directional behaviour as EA or other companies.

Seems like success to me (or again, what did I miss).

Elite Dangerous isn't being made to the exact expectations of someone, so it is obviously more doomed than a man wearing a red shirt on the star ship Enterprise.

Ok, so the company is a financial success and have even recently picked up a major project tied to an extremely successful film franchise, but that doesn't mean they're having success or anything. At least not until they start giving people their own factions or whatever in ED. Merely being a business that makes money won't cut it these days. Companies need to not make Planet Coaster at the same time as ED or not make Xbox/PS4 ports, or something.

Remember; the true test of commercial success is not whether your company makes money and gives your employees personal satisfaction, it is whether it stops people moaning about not having their sense of entitlement instantly fulfilled because they're objectively correct about what makes a good Elite game.

Seems like a lot of fuss about nothing to me, Frontier are doing well and are investing in the future (New Build just down the road.)

The future of ED and FD seems pretty good to me.

To build a new building, implies to have a vision for the future

Frontier aren't building a new building. They're just renting a new building off Trinity College, moving from multiple existing smaller buildings to save money.

Funny when I drove past it in June of this year it looked very much like a new building to me.

And the roof looks like a launch pad to me. :p
