FDEV you saved me a bunch of money!

Maybe they need to implement a licensing system for ships and ship classes.

Have to complete a series of missions with a certain rating in order to be qualified to pilot the new ship.

i suggested licences once.... it was about as popular as my exploration mechanics suggestion (Ie, outside of a few of the early backers supporting it, it was generally a landslide against it!)

I still agree with you.

imo ED needs far more "grinds" if you want to call them that, but each one should be much smaller.

FD tried that with locking down certain missions behind rank. Lots of flipped tables. However, I think current design with warning about rank level is better, it allows you to hit above your height so to say.

Well the problem is the only grind for a conda is money, and over the past years there have been a number of get rich quick methods. I myself got a conda the hard way but immediately recognized I'd rather still be in an a rated python than an e rated barge. :)

I'd be happy for some unique mission paths to unlock ships, but please no more cutter/Vette rep stuff.

OP, since you're just facing NPC ships, you could replace that class 5 optional module reinforcement with a fighter bay. SLFs work well as a distracting effect on npc ships. And of course suggested to shore up your shield's and booster's thermal resistance. Have a good break.
