FDL setup advice

Got myself a FDL a few days ago... since i was too lazy/sane to grind the mats its mostly g3-4 modded and still, like mentioned above, some kind off "click to win button" (for PVE obviously) :)

Put guns in it. :p

Literally any combination of weapons is fine for PvE. Pick what you enjoy using.

I'm a missle fan myself.
I tried installing 4 class 2 missile launchers and a huge MC, but I set my FDL on fire. And it wasn't particularly effective on shields. :p
Kinda wish there was a class 4 missile launcher, even if the damage per missile was the same as class 2 but with loads more ammo, and maybe a faster RoF/reload.

Highly recommend the following as a baseline:

- LW5 Reactive Armor
- DD5's in the 134+ range. 135 is pretty easy to get, last time I went with 42 rolls and got 5 135's.
- CE5's. You want your recharge in the mid-high 30's ideally. EFCs are broken right now so if you can get high 20's and a mid 30 weap on a CE4 that'll cut it.
- Therm Resist biweaves. The mats are fairly easy to farm. Load up and get a good set of shields, it really makes a difference. Go for regen secondaries or best resistances. You can get up to 20% regen or broken regen, or 10ish on both as a secondary. I run 2 4A banks, 2d HD HRP, and an interdictor in the additional slots. Adjust for your pve needs as you see fit.
- 3 RA Boosters. 14%+ on all resists, if you grind you can get a bump on shield strength as well. You can run more than this depending on your setup and energy/ utility needs.

Doesn't matter what activity you're doing, that setup is very viable in all situations except trucking/exploring in which case you're in the wrong ship entirely.

Then add on whatever weapons you prefer and the coolest plant possible to support the mj need. Depending on how many high energy weapons I'm loading out, I'll switch between a low emissions g1 plant with -17% therm and flat MJ, or an OC g1 or 2 with mostly flat thermal and +18ish% MJs. You can make most the weapons out there work. For pvp I usually run 3-5 rails, huge therm vent beam or corrosive OC MC work well. Go for +55% damage on your OC mc rolls. Don't remember what a good effi beam roll should be. But there are a lot of options and it really depends on your preferred activity. There are honestly too many good weapon options to cover since this is potentially pve centric.

Also, if you're pvp'ing, drop your fuel to a 1c, roll LW5 sensors, and run a 2d fsd.

It's interesting to me that all three people who have posted their FDL builds in this thread went with huge gimbled multicannon. I gave that a try and didn't like it at all. You don't get much aiming from the cannon because of its position at the bottom of the ship (it can't aim up much).

I went with a huge fixed efficient beam laser on mine and have been liking it quite a bit. I don't have any heat or distributor issues.

I usually fly mine FA-off, boost towards my target and flip over like a coin, keeping that big cannon locked the whole time.
Also, the multi-cannon has the Corrosive mod, which turns hard hulls into tough pudding quite nicely.

I've tried a few different huge weapons - cannon (too little ammo, even with High Capacity), Pulse laser (not bad, but.. eh), Beam (much better, and with Kinetic mod, reasonable), and Plasma (usable if modded Efficient) but it's like throwing a bowling ball under water.
