I didn't call anyone stupid. Just lazy.
We're not in the 90's anymore, anything that exists has a website, games included, specially online games. And you must surely admit that the most obvious source of information on an online game is its own website. If someone is that interested in a game and its upcoming releases to care about knowing about things like Mayhem, its a little odd that they never checked the games website before. Its like people who complain they can't get a job, even though they never looked for one (my country is full of those).
In-game events already have an in-game source of information: Galnet. Every single CG is announced in Galnet. Mayhem is not on galnet because its not an ingame event. But even with galnet, you will probably have already noticed in this very forum that some players don't want to spend 1 minute a day to check new galnet items in the game and find out if there are new CGs. See where I'm getting at? Its not the lack of information, but mostly lack of will to lift a finger to find it.
Anyway, I'm not against having one more link in the launcher to the community part of the game website, but you can bet your house and car that there will still be people complaining that they "can't find" information.
That's a good point too, the Galnet news could be better organized.
Tags could be a start. Open a GalNet article related to the Mayhem thingie, in the bottom there would be a list of tags, you press ''events'' and now you get all GalNet articles about events ordered chronologically.
For some things, the GalNet writers could also try adopting a basic template, so that the time and location of the event isn't hidden under a pile of flavor text. Event name, location, time, and then additional information. I think this would work great.
Also, I think you overestimate how engaged people in general are in the community. Sure, maybe ED has a website... but maybe you don't engage much in game communities, maybe you don't really play that many online games at all.
I think the play cycle of a lot of ED players goes like this: they decide that they want to play ED, they start it up, go through the launcher, start the game, play, and then, after a while, theyq uit playing and start doing something not related to ED. As things work right now, these people never (with the exception of GalNet) get in contact with an information source about game events, and GalNet information on events is pretty poor. A link to community news, or just integrating the news into the launcher would solve this.
