Fed Dropship Mk 2, really FD???

The dropship in it's original form is a good ship, it has the second strongest hull in game... It just has no purpose. I wouldn't want them to change the original ship, just give us troops/pax to fly in/out of combat areas. Original Dropship has the second toughest hull in the game.

And that thick hull is for delivering troops and drones to a station or planet surface....has got to take a beating even when systems are failing.

I wonder if the Dropship Mk.I will be the troop carrier, and the Mk.II the Fire Support Variant for brings guns to bear on big targets, leaving the Gunship as the Turret Boat, keeping the light escorts busy.

Variants count; the DBX and DBS are separate ships as far as the total tally.
For the magical Free Ship of Legend, only the ACCESS is free, presumably waiving any restrictions on obtaining one. Still zero news about that dealio.

If there's any truth to last night's revelations that 1.4 will have four new ships, one of which is the Fed Dropship Mk 2.
Don't see any sense to having an upgraded model for one of the most unpopular ships in the game that has only been introduced a year or so ago. Surely the Cobra Mk 4 is way more deserving, the Mk 3 is an awesome ship but it is the original iconic ship from 1984 that is, sorry to say, sadly in need of an upgraded model, hardpoints, power plant and utility points mainly, slightly different look but keeping the original shape mainly.
Can't help feeling huge disappointment over this but maybe in future plans yet, I suppose FD can't please us all
It makes perfect sense to improve a ship which needs improvement. The Cobra doesn't, the Fed Dropship does.

Well reasons aren't excuses. But they are reasons.
Easier for the devs to know the reasons and act accordingly than to call for the impossible and have the internets clean up its act.
It makes perfect sense to revamp the most unpopular ship in the game. Going by the traffic logs, there are anywhere from 15 to 50 times more Orca pilots than Fed Dropship users.
The current Fed Dropship will go down in Elite History as our generation's "Cobra Mk2".
I wouldn't say no to a Cobra Mk1 though, something that fits between the Adder and Cobra Mk3.
As a fuel rat, I'd want a Python variant, switching the powerplant and FSD housing size. Yeah it wouldn't be able to fire those large guns anymore but it'd turn into a great exploration/refueling ship.

I would say hold judgement on the ships until they are released. Maybe the Dropship MK2 will be amazing? Only way to tell is wait and see.

The geometries and textures were a bit easier to bang out, back then, hmm?
I'm OK with FD taking plenty of time to produce ships, as long as they are beautiful and have cool design and nice paint-jobs.
People who are down on the current Dropship, talk to some dropship pilots and listen to them wax lyrical about the beauty of the ship. Its highly underrrated.
I saw a dropship pilot see off a player python who tried to attack him... he thought it was going to be an easy fight, but ended up running away like a little girl. Also check out some youtube vids of people flying it.
Take a good pilot to fly one, but they are not as bad as people think.
