Newcomer / Intro Feedback from potential customer

The game is an 'MMO' but probably not in the way you are thinking.

It is Massive, it is Multiplayer and it is Online.

What it isn't is an "MMO" with guilds/corporations etc.

It's funny how many people come and talk about how much they like the look of ED and then demand that it be changed to something which fundamentally isn't ED. Try EvE Online.
How is that, I thought E: D is the first game in the franchise that implements multiplayer?
How can you tell social features are "not Elite" if multiplayer wasn't even possible in the original Elite?
How can you tell if the devs aren't going to implement it next month? It is widely requested.

And yes, I tried EVE online. Dunno why you all hate it. I considered it a fine game, but it's soooo old now. And the subscription fees eat up my wallet alive.

At first I thought it was "odd" that a game like this had no guilds/corporation functionality but when I realized that there wasn't really any real advantage of being in one (can't control systems, not deep player driven economy) and that FD has been implementing other social tools that can help fill these gaps (Wings, forums) - I am quite comfortable with ED not having guilds/corporation.

I disliked it because it had all of the features you want and required a subscription to keep it going.

Lets hope the devs ignore the group that wanted Eve2 and stick to the Elite reboot they advertised.

I too would avoid any game that had the features that the OP considers essential. Different games for different people.

That was not one of the best attempts to put words into someone's mouth that I've ever seen.

I'm very glad that this game lacks the features that you're demanding. Lack of them is the reason that many people are playing. Have another day.

Like seriously, you all seem to be proud that there is no social interface in this game because it's "not Elite", just because there were no social tools in the original Elite.
Saying social tools are "not Elite" is like saying multiplayer is "not Elite" because there was no multiplayer in the original game

Look, you don't want to play in a corp? Fine, play lonewolf if you want. Nobody makes you play in a corp. Maybe even you could get hired as a mercenary by some organization, wouldn't that be fun? Getting paid for doing more interresting, player-made quests? Like intercepting cargo of hostile corporations and getting highly rewarded? Or selling navigational data to a corp at a much higher price? Attacking enemy corp's space station? There are many more possibilities when it's the players who direct the flow of the game. I seriously dunno why you're all afraid of it.

Well, this is an MMO. Can you tell me straight out of your head any MMO title that wouldn't allow creating guilds? Because I can't. So I thought it's likely it will eventualy get implemented. Much more likely than implementing Velociraptors to a steampunk game... Especially since I'm not the only one requesting it.

:D

Regardless of what any marketing material anywhere has to say on the matter, ED is not an MMO.

There are social tools. Most of us want to see the social tools available in the game enhanced and/or expanded. That doesn't mean we want the social tools you're asking for, because let's be honest: you're asking for a whole lot more than just "social tools". You're asking for a feature set where players take control of swaths of space.

No. Thanks.

Look, you don't want to play in a corp? Fine, play lonewolf if you want.

I don't want ANYONE playing in a "corp".

Nobody makes you play in a corp.

I want to make you not play in a "corp".

No, it would not be fun.

No interest in any sort of PvP ever under any circumstances at all. The idea that I could fleece a corp by making them overpay for useless garbage data is mildly interesting, but it would be even more fun for player run corps to never exist in the first place.

I'm having a hard time convincing myself that this is not a troll thread. I wonder why.

I think the basic conversation here has departed the scene.
If i understand the OP correctly, you'd like to have features in ED that are neither implemented nor planned. Continuing to discuss other games and their advantages/disadvantages here is not going to make the game into what you want therefore any continued discussion is irrelevant.
From my part, i and others here have answered your initial questions - i feel there is little to be gained from troll posting.
Buy it or don't buy it - it's up to you :)

Now I suddenly have the urge to go to a random MMO forum and demand features that are not part of the game.

"Hey guys this game is cool and all but why can't I play as a Velociraptor? Velociraptors are cool... you should totally be able to play one."

'ummm this is a steampunk roleplaying game, I dunno how Velociraptors fit into the idea behind it..."

"Well ok that's fine and dandy, but if you could play a Velociraptor, I would totally buy it. I dunno why they don't implement Velociraptors as a playable race... everybody loves Raptors... they are totally rad! I'd buy the game if I could play a Raptor, but without Raptors... meh... not really my thing."

:D

I would totally play a Raptor Engineer. God I want that game to be made now! :)

Well, I was simply wondering why there seems to be such a fear of any kind of social content in an MMO game. It's something I have never experienced in any other MMO game (it IS an MMO game, anyone who states otherwise is just wrong). To me the whole point of MMO games is to interact with other players. Otherwise why even make it MMO? You could have multiple servers and smaller maps and achieve similiar effects. I seriously can't understand this.

but well, you're probably right. Further discussion is irrelevant and I should probably stop this before everyone starts calling me a troll. So yeah, the topic can be closed now

It's not an MMO, it is online single player with an option for PVP or teamplay if so desired.

It was never intended as an MMO, same as it was never intended as a sandbox - at least not in the sense that EVE and Minecraft players think of when they hear those keywords.

Also: Velociraptors lived on Earth, and the steampunk game takes place on Earth. Both Raptors and the steampunk people come from the past, so why can't we have Velociraptors? It totally makes sense that they should be in the game! Also: Cat-people! Skyrim had cat-people, and it is also a roleplaying game... so all roleplaying games should allow cat people as playable races! Everybody loves cats! Just google cat pictures on the internet... proof that everybody loves cats! Also: Why can't we become the ruler of Great Britain in the game and start building our Empire and researching tech and conquer other Civilizations(TM)? Having NPCs as rulers is totally lame, they never do anything rad.... I wanna become the ruler of the UK and build a kickass flying steampunk castle and use it to conquer the world so all other players have to bend the knee before me or perish! And I want to be the first cat-queen in the history of this game. With a kickass Velociraptor as my mount. A flying one. Make it happen Devs!

Everybody would benefit from those features that I desire for my own entertainment! I don't see at all how they could break the game. Nobody NEEDS to bend the knee before me... they can decide to fight me (and die *cough*)... or hey, they could become my mercenaries (but I will only accept cat mercenaries. With the purchasable Hello Kitty skin armor.)

Come on, Devs! Be reasonable! :D

It's mmo sure but only just. But, and a big but... Think of it as a new genre of mmo. Remember before mmos and then they became a thing?
Think of it like that if it helps.

In the OP's defence some of the PVE crowd are pretty vile to anything non PVE. I'm starting to not like the PVE forum guys *shivers* maybe I've been in space too long.

Oh my goodness! PvE and PvP oriented players having very different preferences about what features should be in the game due to the implications of those features on their mode of play?

:p

Corporations would be really weird in this game. Having players take control of areas of space becomes strange when I can go fly through the space they control and do whatever I want there and there is nothing they can ever, ever, ever do about it because we'll never see each other there.

I'm all for PVE and PVP I was referring to the passive aggressive PVE mob.
