feedback from released horizons using VR please...

kinda agree, but why is fine in space, even in supercruise now?

The answer is terrain! Look up to the "sky", while on surface, your frames will almost double! Terrain needs much more work than the black Space!

OK I admit my cpu is not the best, it is a Xeon5530 2.4GHZ quad core. But remember none of the cores ever supercedes 90% usage. I do agree though if there is anything weak in my system it's the cpu. I was thinking of getting new motherboard/cpu but I'm trying to wait for CV1 release, and even then I would want to be sure that the CPU is the problem before replacing.

I notice some people with a GTX980 are also complaining about judder/fps on planets, so maybe it's code issues?!
You using GTX970 too? Have you tried different planets/moons and near cities/ports?

I tested many different planet environments (during planetary landings) and no problem. Slight fps drop is perceptible near planetsides (farms, ports - only on planet surfaces...), but still good enough.
After next 3 hours of testing, I didn´t changed any setting. So my previous feedback and setting is still recommended. Your CPU is definitely a bit unusual for today´s
gaming, but I´m sure that waiting for the final CV1 or VIVE is wise decision. Definitely: NO RUSH.

Am I the only one who thinks the new spherical UI plane looks terrible? After recentering, my head isn't in the center of the sphere which defeats the purpose of having a sphere in the first place. The sphere is too small and a little in front of me, which means the corners of the UI are closer than the center and not perpendicular to my head position. I guess I could roll the chair back, recenter, then roll forward to position.

It also appears to be made up of about 10 polygons so there are big creases in the middle of some parts of the UI. The curve in 1.4 and earlier looked fine. Wish they had stuck with that.

The game is basically unplayable for me now anyway (i7 4770, 780Ti). I had most settings to min and it was smooth everywhere (except the super cruise issue) but now I get less than 75fps pretty much everywhere and about 10fps on planets. Seems the game will now get shelved until I can buy a new video card.

Will going to non-horizons 1.5 give me the old performance back?

Have you seen the performance I get with my 770, almost maxed out? Give it a try, maybe this will help you, until you get a new card:

I must confirm that ELITE Dangerous + Horizons in DK2 is something that everyone should try. For my part: it is the best game of all time, period because of DK2. DK2 and ELITE Dangerous is a massive virtual reality experience. You are not playing a game, in fact you are THERE. I was also worried a bit about the performance and FPS impact, especially with regards the mininum recommended hardware spec. Fact is that Nvidia GTX 980 is actually overclocked GTX 970, so nothing special, it´s in fact still the same card with regards the actual performance boost...

My spec as follows:

CPU: INTEL CORE i7 970@2.93 GHz 3.06 GHz
RAM: 16 GB
VRAM: ZOTAC GEFORCE GTX 970
OS: WINDOWS 7 - HOME / 64-BIT
OCULUS SDK: 0.5.0.1
PRIMARY CONTROLLER: HOTAS TTHRUSTMASTER WARTHOG
SECONDARY CONTROLLER: XBOX 360 GAMEPAD (SRV)

Nvidia chipset setting (in Windows): DEFAULT
in Game graphics setting: PRESET ULTRA
Custom optimization SHADOWS OFF, AMBIENT O. OFF, AA OFF, SUPERSAMPLING: 1.0

According to my hardware and listed optimization, the experience is silky smooth, no single issue and no matter where and when. Even the ride in SRV is totally smooth on any kind of surface I tried yesterday. I´m sure that when I will play a bit more with the windows nvidia custom profile, I can boost some performance or picture quality, but now... I prefer to play a game instead of fiddling with graphics :). I also confirm, that I´m running default DK2 drivers (0.5), no external mods needed. The AA setting is not so important in DK2. I learned that when I turn the AA off, the picture is much sharper in DK2, hence the AA - ON makes this game in DK2 a bit fuzzy - especially small assets and fonts. But it depends on personal point of view. As soon as the HTC VIVE and OCULUS CV1 will be out on the market I will start build my new computer. But Now? It is not neccessary at all. SEASON 1 HORIZONS is simply the best now!

Wow! Ive been out of the loop for quite some time now.. Installed Horizons couple of hours ago. Just had a quick look at your post . Very promising! I applied your settings and it seems really nice. Granted I have only fired up Horizons to check my performance while docked, but man is it smooth. Typical, work just called and I gotta run. Will test more tomorrow. Anyways, thanks for posting this ruksak!

Got it mostly playable with all the details down low. Not sure why it was so bad first time. I may have been in direct mode by mistake.

I hope in future we can get a skimmer to use instead of the SRV. I can only manage about 30 mins driving before I have to stop due to motion sickness.

I've been working on this - ED only supports up to 0.5 OR Runtime and only 0.7 and later works with Windows 10. I'm looking at creating a separate external boot drive with Win 8, EDH and OR Runtime 0.5 to try to solve the problem

I've used runtime 0.5 on Windows 10 - works fine.

I just saw my Conda in OR DK2 for the first time - worth the whole day I spent on it. I've seen that some others have got the Oculus 0.5 Runtime working under Windows 10 but I think there was an update to W10 in November that messed it up for many. My plan worked at least so at least it's something that works.

I've kept Win 10 and RT 0.8 on my primary drive

On an external drive I'm running:-

Windows 8.1 64bit
Oculus Runtime 0.5
Oculus Firmware 2.12
Nvidia 361.43 on a GTX 980 card
Elite dangerous installed also

So now I just hit F7 at startup and choose whether to boot as normal or boot from the external drive. I'll probably copy the drive over to my external SSD when I get back home so it's faster and more reliable.

I'm pretty happy with this solution as it means I can keep my primary system up to date for everything else.

If anyone can tell me how to get 0.5 Runtime working on Windows 10, I'd be interested to know how.

Cheers

I am waiting for the download servers to get a rest before I download horizons tomorrow. In the meantime I just wanted to get a heads up from any of you who already tried horizon release today(using oculus of course)? Especially interested in if FPS losses and supercruise judder/lag issue.

Horizons beta with 800 runtime = judder.

Horizons release version last week = judder with my lowly GTX 680.

I have just tried Horizons again today and there is no judder!

It's great... I get the image mirrored to desktop monitor now!

It is actually running pretty good a little less detail than when I was running 0.5 but not a huge difference on 0.8 definitely a lot easier to run just open voice attack and launch the game from the FD launcher and playing in about 60 sec. Did my first landing at a base El Capo or something like that. Picked up a mission to recover a downed pilot on the planets surface in an escape pod worth over 100K. Took off and flew over the planet in circles away from the base at about 4K height till I saw the place of interest circle come on my radar set the ship down in there and launched the scarab. Took about a half hr but found the escape pod the problem was I deployed the cargo scoop on the scarab and it would not pick it up. Spent another half hr trying to pick the stupid thing up and simply will not, what a waste. Game is still buggy.
