Feedback on Base Game access, etc - from a new player really trying to like the game

I bought Elite Dangerous on a sale a couple weeks , or more, ago and have really been trying to get into it, but some things feel like annoying inconveniences rather than a learning curve for the game.

One of the biggest annoyances I've come across is being able to acquire missions that I cannot complete because I do not have the expansion. There should really be a big bold WARNING notice, or better yet, don't let base game players even have the opportunity to accept a mission that they could not possibly complete without the expansion. As a new player this has been a huge turnoff.

While I've come across some more minor problems in the game, I really hope devs will take notice of this one and solve it. I can only imagine I'm not the only one close to quitting because of this issue (that is really more like the straw that broke the camels back, but it's a big straw)

You are right to be annoyed by that. To help you off i've found these mission assets, anything with a planet on it like the ones above needs Horizons and until the issue gets fixed or until you get Horizons this may help a little.

Edit: ok so that didn't work, check this asset site out. https://edassets.org/#/missions as i said anything with planets on it.

Back when I didn't have horizons, I'm 99% sure you just didn't see missions to surfaces on the listings.
But I purchased horizons not long after release so it's been a very long time.

I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to go also, it should be easy for a PC player to check simply by loading the non-horizons version of ED and comparing the mission listings to what they see when they load the horizons version. I would do it myself but I am not going to be back in the bubble for another two months so no mission boards for me, can anyone volunteer to check?

Thanks for the link Azreh, I'll try it out.

As for how the missions currently go, I've had two missions already that required me to take a passenger onto a planet. It seems like the destination has a dash in it usually like 3049-AC but I may be wrong.

The first mission, I was very close to delivering when I found out my ship just emergency stops because I'm getting too close to the planet (where it says I need to go)
The second mission was not originally to a planet, but the extra bonus part was.

They might not improve anything for the base game since most people are buying the game along with the expansion.
I don't have any numbers, but that's my guess.
Just get horizons, it's worth it.

That doesn't really make sense as surface destination, or any destination at all come to that so that ones got me puzzled. Surface station references will begin with the system name followed by body name.

I want to apologize, as I believe I was in the wrong this time. Another recent mission I did had me do something similar, but the problem is that I was not going to the visitor beacon nearby, rather than the planet it was pointing to.

I thought passenger missions were ONLY supposed to be part of the Horizons Expansion anyway? Are non-Horizons owners able to buy passenger cabins?

Horizons is required only for the Beluga and Dolphin - passenger cabins can be bought and used by base-game only accounts.

hmmm... good to know... strange decision from FDev, but not the first time, to be sure

... just to illustrate, I loaded in base game and you can see on the station services that passenger lounge is available, crew lounge isn't:

BTW - I did check that there were passenger cabins available to buy.

Imho, FD needs to quit selling the base game without Horizons. Simply add Horizon features to the base game and sell it as the base game. If FD thinks it needs to add a couple of dollars to the price, that's a decision they'll have to make (but I wouldn't).

Being able to own and fly the Dolphin is reason enough for me to buy the ticket to Horizons. I'm sure there are other reasons too. I love that ship.
