Feeling concerned for the game.

If you write a buzzfeed style click bait title that SAYS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the content of the thread, it’s likely that some will respond to the title. Next time, write a proper title.

y title is entirely accurate. I am concerned that they're hurting the future of the game by making central content too difficult for average players to participate in. That's the central argument, the rest was descriptive of the sort of thing I'm referring to, but isn't intended to be exhaustive. People tend to focus on the example rather than the central point being made.

OP please pay attention to this because you've ignored other people saying it.

Thargoid content accessible to solo players in low level ships without Guardian or AX weaponry IS in the game. It's in threat levels <5. Often it's only 4 Thargoid Scouts.

Declaring that you won't use AX weaponry because you like what you have though? That's ridiculous. And claiming that AX weaponry is 'locked behind some grind or other' is flat out wrong. AX weaponry is purchasable from many star ports. No material requirement, no engineer, no unlock, no rank.

gain, I'm playing solo, so there's no wings to join. I doubt I'm the only one. I'm not flying a ship incapable of defending itself. It's a Federal dropship. The shields, engines and such are engineered. It's a tough little ship. It has NO chance of winning ANY fight with ANY thargoid content.
Now, I'm not saying there shouldn't be content as difficult as I've seen so far... it's just that there's NOTHING ELSE. There needs to be something for everyone.

Imagine joining a football league. You go in expecting to have some fun against a tough opponent, but when you get there, your opponents are the Dallas Cowboys, who walk all over you. Your next match, you get on the field to find the opposition, the Buffalo Bills, have been playing for 20 minutes while you weren't on the field. You hope maybe you'll eventually face a team that you have a chance of competing with... but no, every team is WAY beyond you.
Now, would you enjoy playing in that league? Would you CONTINUE playing in it, and getting pulverized constantly? I rather doubt it.

I did play the original Elite, and did face Thargoids occsionally... and you know what, I was able to defend myself in my trading ship. I didn't HAVE to have ultramegasilly elite special weapons or equipment that precludes me doing ANYTHING else in the game but fighting Thargoids. Sure, we shouldn't be able to defeat them in a Sidewinder (maybe an exceptionally skilled pilot could...), but mine is a combat ship, with decent to good weapons and engineered defenses... and I had NO CHANCE.

You see, I'm not interested in putting magic weapons on my ship, I like the gear I'm using. That I have no choice but to use these special weapons (which are locked behind one or another grind) is part of the problem. They should HELP, but not be REQUIRED.

Ok, I'll use your football analogy.
You joined Major League and expected to find something for you, instead you got beaten by top teams instead of joining Sunday league which is the level for you. You could gang up and get a team together and play in Major League (wing), or you could get better by playing sunday league to get the skills for major league (ship).

You made a choice to fly solo. Open and Mobius exist, what is your big deal about not playing with others? I just don't get the brick wall you've put up here. I understand being reluctant but you can go into PvE Mobius for weekend, do Thargoids and retreat back to Solo. It's not like the game-modes are separate or anything. Why should the developers spend tons of time creating content that already exists in a weaker form to fit how you are playing
I totally get wanting to play with Thargoids, I also get wanting to play solo. But what I don't get is blank refusal to even try it with a wing. It's like the one thing you need wings for in this game.

Basically it's in, it's working, you've limited yourself. My main point (which I feel I haven't put across very well) is: Justify why the developer time needs to be spent to create a Thargoid easy mode when 95% of players are able to play and enjoy it as is because they do it the way it was intended to be done?

My other big issue is I can use the same arguement to say that Thargoid ships, Capital ships, ATR ships and Corvettes/Anacondas/Cutters should be able to be destroyed by a sidewinder. There has to be a better arguement than "I'm playing it differently, make it work for me" imho.

Anyway, getting a bit circular here. Peace out everyone, i'm gonna go for a walk :)

Well... today I had YET ANOTHER encounter that has me worried about the game. If you'll give me a moment, I'll try to explain.

I am flying a Federal Dropship. She's decently equipped, pretty tough and so on. I've set her up mainly for exploring, but she is combat capable for most things.
I've encountered a great many nonhuman signals, usually they're rated threat 5. I go in, there's a thargoid scooping up cargo. It scans me, then leaves me be to go about its business.

Today, I came upon a threat 6 signal, so I thought I'd look in on it, see what was there.

I approached and disengaged the frame shift. The warping down animation started, with the blue effect at the sides of the view... and I was already under attack. I heard something about shield breaching attack or some such, and my shields were immediately gone. I was still warping in, unable to move, engage any systems... there were no contacts on my radar... yet I was already being attacked.

Now, this is the first thing. It's not acceptable to attack players while they're transitioning. It would be like trying to play a hockey game where the opposition gets to start playing 15 minutes before you are allowed on the ice.

So, when I finally finished warping in at around 80% hull, I found myself careening at full speed toward a field of debris (even though I throttled down while transitioning), surrounded on all side by maybe 20 somethings. I didn't have a chance to look at them or count them, but they were all attacking. Outnumbered 20-1 by foes that were attacking be before I'd finished loading into the area... I had no option but to immediately warp out again.

This is the second thing, and the thing that most worries me.

The thargoids, up til now, have not been accessible to most players. Players like me, who are not kitted out with the specific special gear in the specific most powerful ships, simply cannot defend themselves against the thargoids. Now, I read that there is now another kind of thargoid ship, the scouts, which are described as being smaller and less resistant to damage. As such, I thought that they might represent thargoid content that everyone can participate in. However, if they're going to be assaulting players in vast numbers like this, then they're just as inaccessible to the average player.

This is especially bad because the thargoid story and related content comprises the main story of the game. As it stands, unless you have the exact particular ship with the exact particular gear, you simply cannot do anything with the thargoid story. Many players are going to come into the game and try to participate in this content, encounter enemies they can't compete with at all, locked behind an impenetrable grind, and just abandon the effort entirely. I feel the urge to do so myself. I mean, I've stopped bothering with nonhuman signals completely because there's nothing for me to DO in them. I see a Basilisk or Medusa, I can't possibly fight it, so being there is a waste of time. I go up against these new smaller ships, I'm outnumbered 20-1, so I can't possibly fight them, so being there is a waste of time. There's NO GAME.

Now, I know there will be those who tell me to "wing up," to get other players. Unfortunately, because I play solo, there ARE no other players, and I'm not going to play in open. I doubt I'm the only one.

As a result, I find myself worrying about the future of the game. Players are going to encounter this kind of thing and just give up. I hope the devs will consider this going forward.

The transition from supercruise shouldn't have taken that long in the first place. Never does for me. Perhaps that's a networking/bad net issue?
Also, I dropped into many a non-human signal source of all threat levels available, flying an exploration Asp, and have never been attacked. Actually Thargoids only attack if you are too close to them for a while or if you outright attack them. Or if you are carrying Guardian stuff in your hold. They follow you and attack you later, if you are carrying thargoid stuff.

I really think this was a bug. Perhaps you jumped into the signal source correctly but it wasn't show on your screen. And while you were visually stuck in the transition, for which reason ever, your ship flew full speed into the Thargoid which then attacked. If you lost anything you should open a support ticked to have your rebuy reimbursed.
If your internet provider is not snailnet.slo, you should also file a bug report. But this is not normal behaviour of the Thargoid encounters.

i have no idea what the threat levels mean. ice been playing since christmas and have played the tutorials. Threat 6 would mean nothing to me on a scale of 1 to no idea.

You don't grind for AX weapons, you can buy It in planetary military ports. But if you decided not to use then, its your decision not the game.....be honest, you only want the win button against every thing in the game, you don't want to adapt.

Threat 1 very easy, threat 7 wing content extra hard

didn't say THAT exactly... I'm just saying this is something I'm concerned about. I want to see the game do well, but I don't think blocking off so much significant content from the masses is going to promote that.
I

People have been saying it since beginning. Unfortunately this game is skill gated. And that's how it's gonna be.

It won't be CoD or Battlefield - and thank god for that.

As long as Thargoids require the Guardian Module grind, they are off limits to me. I will NEVER drive around those little ruins, shooting stationary pillars, 50 times to get blueprints. If stuff like this is what they require, nope. Wont ever see them, more less fight them, since seeing them places me in a position where I cannot DO or interact with anything.

I want to fly ships in a persistent universe full of dynamic content. Driving around collecting rocks, shooting stationary pillars and staring at menu screens are NOT why I play a space sim. Its time for actual GAME content.

This, First make a ship is grind,t hen when people are done with it add more content exclusievley behind a new grindwall.
Yep thats how bad game progression is made.

Wow, it looks like a lot of people missed the point.

Threat 6 isn't the issue. Being dangerous isn't. It is the fact that apparently the npcs get to start the attack while you are still loading (and paralyzed). Kind of like jumping into certain EVE online systems.

Ignoring the hyperbolic thread title and the (near) ship loss that is almost certainly down to lag I'm having a nighmare of a time finding NHSS that is not threat level 5. I'm after 6 and 7 to get some skin samples. So far, in three days in the Pleiades I've found 4 signal sources that aren't level 5s and they have been 2 scout spawn, a fleet of scouts spawn and a couple of probes. The RNG is what is infuriating.

To me it looks like you didn't read the OP, that was only a tiny part of it.
