Felicity Farseer, I can just show up?

I've always read that Engineers basically require something to be able to even visit their station. I checked the wiki for Felicity here and it states that her location is public knowledge, and that I can just go there. Is this true?

Also, I am primarily interested in Engineering for Exploration sake. Is her's the best engineering butt to kiss?

She's "public knowledge", but you will need an invite to be able to land there. You will receive the invitation after reaching an exporer rank of Scout. And you will need to give her a Met-Alloy to be able to use her services.

For more details check here: https://inara.cz/galaxy-engineers

She's one of the first tier of engineers so you automatically know of her existence. To be invited, you need Scout rank in exploration, and to access engineering you have to provide 1 ton of meta alloys.

You should also bring a bottle of wine or something. No need to go overboard on the price but, yer know, something drinkable.

Also, remember to take your shoes off. She hates that.

Which, in most cases, you can achieve by scanning your way out to whatever that base is where they sell them, picking some up, and scanning your way back.
Stop by Gary Terminal, sell your Carto, make your rank, and you've gotten at least 2 invites now - one for Felicity and one for Elvira Martuuk - who just happens to be every bit as skilled as Felicity at FSD upgrades, and is only 1/10000 her age.

Farseer provides a fairly useful "package" of upgrades for a newbie to engineering.

G5 FSD's are a "must-have", the G3 thruster mod's are nice and the fact that she offers G1 PP upgrades means you won't ever be stuck with a ship that you can't fly home in after getting the other upgrades done.

Also (for me, at least), Farseer is in the middle of a fairly nice "loop" of engineers who can do most of my upgrades without having to schlep hundreds of Ly out of my way.

If only Lei Chung and Palin could move closer to Sol....

I guess I still don't quite get how to know about her. I don't, and I dont get how.

You need to attain the rank of Scout before you get an introduction to her. Rank up in Explorer by scanning systems and/or planets and then selling that explo data at Cartographics on stations. Get yorself an Advanced Discover Scanner module and start scanning (honking) systems as you pass thru them and you'll get there pretty quick.

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Explorer is decent source, altho rank credit amounts are off. Just keep an eye on your rank % on right hand UI.

OP, hop in your spaceship and equip a fuel scoop and advanced discover scanner. Then head to Maia and scan every system on the way. In Maia, buy 1 meta alloy at Darnelle's progress. Then jump back to farseer and scan everything on the way.

In Deciat, stop at the main orbital and sell your exploration data to the universal cartographics contact. If that gets you to scout, you should get the farseer invite. if not, keep scanning systems until you do get to scout.

Once you have the invite, take the meta alloy to farseer and turn it in to unlock her.

She's not so much an engineer but someone who provides basic game requirements.

Not really. I had done short haul trading, mining, then a couple dozen long haul 400 LY trading runs before getting over to her. Makes life a lot easier, that's for sure.

I am already a Trailblazer, two steps above Scout. I have no invite. I got this rank before owning Horizons, so I'm guessing that's why?

I'm probably screwed aren't I?

AFAIK showing up at an Engineer Base without Invitation triggers a lethal Response when attempting to enter the NFZ of the Base. And rather quickly so.

Really? Never tried, but I'm surprised at that.

I guess ill just get the next exploration rank and see if the invite pops...

If you can see Farseer in your list of engineers, and it shows the requirement, then you are good to go. Once the engineer shows as available to be unlocked, the invitation is irrelevant (it's only to inform you anyway).
