Your Feature Request / Idea
Hello everyone,
I have two ideas about fences,

Firstly, even if it has been said several times on this forum, it is strange that small carnivores destroy fences rather than scaling them, this is not realistic.

Secondly, I have the impression that the electric fence is not very useful. Even after taking a dump the dinosaurs continue to attack it as if nothing had happened. In my memories, in JPOG, when the velociraptors attacked the electric fences they were ejected in a shower of sparks and didn't re-attempt to escape immediately. This should be applied to all dinosaurs. They can't escape while the fences are electrified, but when the power is cut off or the fences are damaged by a storm, they can become clogged.

What do you think ?

PS : sorry if there are mistakes, I use google translation.

I was thinking about this just today but I was too lazy to make a new thread. :D I sort of understand why this is in the game, I guess this was meant to give us some challenges to overcome. That said, the notion that if a dinosaur wants to escape then it will escape is just crazy. First of all, I think that most dinosaurs should not be able to escape simply because their bodies would not withstand the bashing against metal cables/bars or concrete walls, not to mention that their small body mass would simply do no damage to those fences. Also, keep in mind that this would cause them a lot of pain and even though most dinosaurs are not considered to be particularly bright I think the pain would stop them from attacking fences. Not that every dinosaur would need to attack the fence, I'm pretty confident that the Troodon could just squeeze through the light & heavy steel fences. I think that a bulletproof, 20cm thick acrylic glass fence would be a much better option for small dinosaurs.

Now consider a different point of view. Would a multi-billion dollar company with thousands of daily visitors really put their deadly "attractions" behind fences they could easily break out of? I don't think so.

I agree!

One thing I think would work is to have different features for each fence.

Small fences: The basic fence that we start out with but the worse fence to use for small and giant carnivores. Small carnivores will scale over the fence as an instant breakout, while giant carnivores (Carnotaurus and up) will immediately break out if they see this fence.
• If electric: The small carnivores could be kept in but will bash if they want to break out. Giant carnivores will still immediately break out if they see this small fence.

Medium Fences: Stronger than the small fence, it has the same features as the small fence but giant carnivores will not immediately break out on sight. Small carnivores will climb out if it is not electric.

Heavy steel fence: Should remain the same in game.

One thing I would love to see if they somehow implement a small viewing area to fences next to paths. In which small and medium fences would allow you to see dinosaurs who walk up close to the fence. Heavy fences won't allow this as the fence is too solid to view the dinosaurs.

Great idea. I just posted another thread before reading this saying the electric fences should be made more special. When the power goes out carnivores particularly should sense the power is off and effect an immediate escape when the power is off.

Agreed. On sandbox, I turn off breakouts for this reason. I find it difficult to believe that Dino's can seemingly break out at will. Imagine if high security prisons ran on the same principle...

Though on the flip side, I kind of feel it's in tune with the line of "you never had control, that's the illusion!"

"you never had control, that's the illusion!", I think they can put it forward otherwise. As Flint2025 said, carnivores could have a tendency to escape when the current is cut which makes current cuts much more dangerous, because at the moment the fences are electrified or not the purpose is the same dinosaurs escape... : |

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree.

Personally, I in addition to the suggestions above, would like to see the fences damage the creatures health. Bonus points of they give us control of how much current goes though. It could be something at simple as levels. For example, level 1 would damage a small carnivore, level 2+ is lethal to a small carnivore. Level 1-2 is ineffective against a large carnivore, level 3 will damage a large carnivore, level 4 is lethal.

I think some may feel it takes out the challenge, bit I digress. The Dino's are still investments, and if you kill off a several million dollar T-Rex, you're out all that money and rating. They could add a welfare penalty too. Could be about finding a balance.

I'm any case, any improvement to fences is welcome in my opinion.

Yes it could be interesting !
