My ED Shipyard Loadout for FDL

As everyone knows, the FDL has horrible power issues which I'm still working out. I also haven't searched any stations to get my internals/weapons fully upgraded and balanced as I'd like, but this is what has been work best for me now. I hardly ever have to refil/repair at a station, so I'm basically grinding CZs and bounties until I get bored .

As for my weapons, I've tried both fixed and gimbaled for all laser types on the 4 medium hardpoints, and have come to enjoy gimbaled most (Since the HP locations are pretty bad/spread out in my opinion). The beam lasers are placed on the 2 med hardpoints that are further spread apart and able to reach further up and a little more damage than the other 2 medium hps (for those who also noticed this). Also, the Beams are good when you're chasing down smaller ships, by upping your Engines and trying not to use up Wep Recharge. This way you can spam your beams as long as you need to and be able to keep smaller ships in you sights :D.

On the huge hardpoint, I've tried class 4 cannons/pas both fixed and gimbaled, but found to keep it most damage AND time efficient as a class 3 pulse (firing at the same time as the other 2 pulses). I know most people probably like to use that Huge Hardpoint with some firepower, but I find it easier to kill ships/power plants faster adding a little more to my DPS rather than overall damage. To put all of this in perspective, my 3 Pulse Lasers cover the lower/mid part of my aim, and 2 Beam Lasers cover the upper/mid part of my aim.

I guess the weapon style and placement overall depends on the CMDRs play style, but since the FDL is very difficult to balance with the power and hardpoint placement issues, I figured I'd give my loadout and advice for those who are looking to play their FDL similar to a Viper/Vulture and trying to kill ships (Of all sizes) as fast as possible.

Any advice/opinions on how I could modify my loadout better/differently is GREATLY appreciated, along with combat tactics ;).

Also, feel free to post your own FDL loadouts and tactics! Or if you need any advice too!

Thanks for reading if you read through all of my nonsense xD!

I use 4x gimb. pulse and 1 x gimb Huge cannon. This is the best combination I have used, and I have tried several. Lasers first with good dps due to pulse then cannon on modules as needed. With this power is very manageable and you have a large number of shots with the pulse before heat issues.

Horrible power issues that let you A-class everything and have 3 or 4 shield boosters?

Here's my current Beam/Cannon setup:

Why no SCB's on these builds. For PvE it's more than fine to have them on a priority or retracted weapon use (you have more than enough power to spare)

PS lots of loadouts in the other thread....

This is mine, its "decent" for PvP but I feel it might be lacking slightly.

The chaff I run a spare with but could (and occasionally is) a heat sink. I feel like I need less Boosters and more SCB but to be honest I prefer the initial high strength of the shield but am open to be being persuaded otherwise.

That is basically my standard FDL, except I gimbal the outer 2 pulse, and have an offlined kws instead of third chaff. If static area of operations, then fuel scoop gets swapped out for another you-know-what.

2 gimballed mcs also work in that loadout.

I really tried to make a beam/mc loadout work but the fitting is overly harsh imho and you sacrifice too much.

Edit: honestly, with the reduction in masslock incoming, I'm just gonna ditch the FDL and run a pimped clipper with the extra speed and scb fitting that ship has, I can live with the suboptimal hardpoints and drifty handling. Not to mention that it can fit a ton of great utility gear in the extra internals without compromising a single thing.

I kind of agree but I never got along with the clipper at all. I love my FDL as it flies just perfectly for me but I find myself going to my Python more and more at the moment :(

Anyone tried a railgun/pulse load out like this FDL

I usually run a higher shield with the huge cannon but wondered if this build was fun!
