Elite / Frontier FFE and Gravis Ultrasound

I didn't found something here i didn't found something on vogons and neither in the web, but FFE didn't recognizes GUS properly maybe some dude knows how to fix this?
Sure using a a virtual midisynth and a recent soundfont sounds better as GUS but i would like to use it for completeness, some games i already run with GUS as soundboard emulation in DOSBox but it already fails on install, probably it's just because GUS is by default on base adress 240 and FFE install accepts only adress 220. I edited the sndstup file to the proper adress but it won't help.

However maybe someone knows the solution for my problem.

---------------

have a look (or a hear) how good a recent soundfont will sound for FFE:

Certainly "Fatboy" tops GUS for any game but well i like GUS and it's much more '90s as to use a virtual midisynth and a large soundfont for which you wouldn't have had already the space for it back in 1995. "Fatboy" is 315MB but there exists a giant soundfont of 1.8GB! I didn't tried it yet because it's a waste of space on my limited notebook.

In the clips "Fatboy" is the last one i recorded as first you hear the MS wavetable synth then the Creative 8MBGM soundfont and as last the use of "Fatboy", the start is (should be) marked in the clips comment.

Just as an example how GUS sound in comparison to "Fatboy" and MSWS:

Yeah this is an old DOS MIDI player, not bad, you can load an image as wallpaper but they are restricted to either 16 colors or 64 EGA palette (must match exactly).

GUS is a wavetable synth like MSWS but it sounds much better as already back in 1993!

The reason why i use "MEGAMID" is that i can disable the players GUI and run it in a batch it also returns an errorcode which is very good to use in a batch (exit or goto). The GUS midiplayer you can run as resident program or otherwise in the background but unfortunately it returns no errorcode and it's not as suitable in a batch as megamid (but can be set to accept commandline entries, i haven't tried this yet and it accepts no playlists that's sad). Any other MIDI player i downloaded meanwhile i can't hide the GUI or they are extremely basic like "minimid" which plays a midi over the PC speaker, or what is left of it when you do so. (yeah of course i can play it back in WinAmp or any, but that's neither the same and i can't call winamp to play just an intro at start.

Fatboy is somewhat less loud but it's overall richer sound and it's very good to listen to classical music, it's not as suitable like other soundfonts for synthetic music it turns almost all to instruments of some sort.

There is already a (nanu knopf?) "button" for GUS ;)
This soundselection screen i made using "PabloDraw" with which you can paint ANSI images in an easy way.
It fronts FFE in DOSBox and a batch exchanges the apropriate "sndstup" files.
