Fighter pilot pay.

That is a one time cost. After that, they take a percentage of your income. That percentage goes up, along with the crew member's rank.

Adding to the above, the percentage a pilot takes at any given rank depends on the rank they were at when you hired them. An elite pilot trained up from harmless is significantly cheaper to maintain than one hired at expert.

Yeah that's one thing that really annoys me, a pilot on 12% will take 12% of everything you make, even when you're busy trading in a Python while they're kicking back in the crew lounge sipping pina coladas.

It's better than having to pay a salary, just imagine if you don't log in for a month and come back to find all your credits have been payed to your pilot.
You are paying them for the convinience of having them on call, don't want to pay them dismsiss them.

Nope, the system is bloaked.
the continuous and enormous cut they make in my income prevent me to use them. Their perma death too.

This is so wrong and NO FUN. BAD.

What I propose :
As of now, the initial hiring cost should be aligned with the NPC level.

This should be the fixed price to pay in the rebuy screen, to cover "cloning and accelerated brain memory implantation" costs (for the hardcore RP players).
This will motivate to hire newbies, and train them to be the best, as we all know our time will not be wasted in a minute...

As of now, Their cut from our income should be aligned with their rang, and lower if they have been trained by us. (Current system).
However, if a pilot is not active on a ship, because I choose not to use them, they should not take any penny ! No job, no pay. For the RP players, their cut already include a "risk of long time unemployment" fee.

Yes, you then can trick the system : by unloading your crew just before cashing in a mission. This could be address by a check at the time the mission is complete, whether a crew is present or not.

With theses alterations to the current gameplay, I would really consider using and training some crew member. Heck ! I would circle the human bubble to find some less than ugly crew pilot !
But not as it is now.

actually,
i would prefer them having a fixed salary and a timed contract.

then i would hire the one i would be able to afford for my gamesession, and wouldn't care about leveling them up.
they are only telepresented into my ship anyway, can only fly the SLF and strangely enough die when the mothership explodes.

The crew member is in your ship, it's not like multicrew. That's why you can only make 1 active when you are docked. It's a bit odd that they are instantly available at any station though.

There's nothing especially hard about hiring a Dangerous pilot when you are flying a ship with a fighter and then firing their lazy, greedy, butt as soon as you swap to a different ship either.

My SLF pilot started off Harmless and I deliberately trained her up to Deadly.
Up to that point, she earned Cr15m.
Since then, I've used her about 4 times and her total "earnings" are Cr170m
So I fired her butt.

Currently, I just hire an SLF pilot when I need one.

Rather undermines any gameplay associated with NPC crew and the sense of camaraderie that comes with having a "follower" in a game but, for Cr170m, I can live without it.

So if you're ranked King in Empire, you don't automatically get a dozen body guards thrown in for the sake of such a title?

I thought all kings by default through the ages, including up to present day.. have bodyguards and 'hangers on' that do everything from take bullets for you to clean your toe nails?

What do I know. I wished I worked at Windsor Castle.. ask the queen for 12% of her daily income to occasionally drive with her.

:D :D

I don't get this. Money is so easy to make in ED - perhaps too easy - why is it a deal breaker for some people that an entirely optional component asks for a small percentage? If they are a good pilot, they could easily take a ship and make money by themselves, so the deal surely has to be worth that persons time?

To turn this around, who here would give up their ship to go as a jobbing pilot for the current percentages on offer? Actually I probably would if I were just beginning again... But only because I think it is a fair deal, a fantastic bit of work experience and a fun way to get into combat.

Oh - silly me - this is the people who think the only goal in ED is to make money? He/she with the biggest pile of cash when they die wins?

i think the main gripe (at least for me) is that they cant do anything with the credits they leach of us.

Once they reach master and above they become a real asset to a lone Commander. You do more money in RES to cover their cut, spend less ammo and each fight is shorter.
If you are in a big ship and you do PVE chances are that you will never lose a crewmate, ever.
And when they are higher rank, you can let them fly your big rig and they do a decent job too.

And I also agree that I would like them to see them pimp themselves in some way with the money they take from you.

why? i can telepresence to the other side of the galaxy but my fighter pilot shouldnt?

Your fighter pilot isn't telepresensing to the next station where they can be picked up to telepresence on your ship where during a fight they will telepresence to the SLF..

Fair enough. It would certainly be more realistic if you hired a "Mostly Harmless" pilot, and after they had earned 6-7m credits, they just quit at the next stations muttering "now I've got enough for my Asp..."

Perhaps they just subscribe to some insanely expensive space channel of groups of people having pleasure without clothes, but with kitchen utensils and cream - I hope you have a mop for that floor...

at the moment they are :)

for all we know the fighter pilot is just a program on our ships.. or have you seen them in person?

or when they reach high enough level they can be NPC wingmates..

come on. 20 % for an ELITE Pilot is ok. He is very good and i don't want miss him anymore. Money making is very easy in ED, so who cares.
